ARE YOU LISTENING?
Special education appeals need consistent support and predictable timelines. Minutes have to be covered. Don’t just look at us to fix it, make it a team effort.
DID YOU KNOW? President Banks meets with the Board President, CPS leadership, and partners, including labor unions, on a regular basis to get answers and spot trends. Some questions have quick answers… “Where are the paper towels?” might be a simple call to Facilities. Others take more work… “How do we handle recess when there are safety concerns?”—that one may need several follow-up calls and a meeting or two. Either way, we need to hear your concerns so we know what to do with them. Tell your Chief and also loop in your CPAA auxiliary leads or CPAA directly. That way we can step in if needed, and even elevate an issue to bargaining when it affects working conditions. Your union is how school-level problems become district priorities.
Compliance creep is real… overlapping deadlines and duplicate asks. Set timelines that match school reality. And please, please coordinate with chiefs!
What I need… bodies in the
building. Send a CPS bigwig the morning after a holiday and let them try to find a sub.
Another “efficiency” rollout? Show the proof, not the hype. And give us actual support. Don’t launch and leave.
