10 YEARS OF EMPATHY AND EXPERTISE CELEBRATE ASHLEY’S MILESTONE AT DENMON PEARLMAN WITH US

When I first started at Denmon Pearlman, I was a criminal defense paralegal with a passion and deep interest in the legal world. Over the years, my position at the firm may have changed, but my love of the field,

It’s funny; I never saw myself entering the legal field or had any interest in becoming a paralegal. It wasn’t until I started working at the State Attorney’s Office that I became exposed to what lawyers can do and how much the law can help people in need. I was in dispatch at the time and got to see the judicial process in

voices when I say we can help them is gratifying. And they fill my cup with their kindness, too. I also love being a part of our outreach programs, like our Walk for Alzheimer’s and back-to-school backpack events. It’s been an incredible journey at Denmon Pearlman, and I’ve learned so much. I’ve certainly gained more patience. I have also learned just how important estate planning is. It’s never too early to prepare for the future, and I’ve had an insider’s view of what can happen when someone passes away and has nothing prepared.

the clients we serve, and my coworkers has only continued to grow. I’m excited to celebrate my 10th anniversary this September. Reflecting on my time here, I have so many happy memories and truly proud moments. It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years already! I’m currently the firm’s intake specialist, so I’m the first person someone will talk to when they reach out to us. I’m responsible for all our new leads and determining if we can provide the legal assistance callers need. It takes a high- level understanding of the law we practice to evaluate if we can help them. I have experience in all areas of the law that we practice here, so when a client calls, I can help them through the whole process and determine if our firm is the right match for them.

action. Seeing how arrests, prosecution, probation, and everything else worked was fascinating. There

was so much to learn about law; every case was unique.

I’m incredibly proud to be a part of the firm’s continued growth and success! Seeing how far we have come and all the fantastic relationships we’ve built in this community is incredible. The team here is 100% there for us, and we want for nothing. Watching the growth of both the team and the clients has been an absolute pleasure. I think it’s pretty telling that I’m celebrating 10 years, and many others here have stayed for years. We’re happy here.

While I was still working for the state, I worked alongside a few of our partners at the firm. When they left the State Attorney’s Office and launched Denmon Pearlman Law, my good friend was one of their first assistants and contacted me about working there. I came on board in 2014, and the rest is history! In my time at the firm, I’ve been proud of many things. I think it’s so rewarding to help clients

through a challenging time in their lives. Often, when someone has to call an attorney’s office, it’s one of the hardest days they’ve ever had, and it can be tough speaking with someone about your worst day. So, I always prioritize being a kind voice on the other end of the line who understands what they are going through and what they need. Hearing the relief in their

So, as I approach this exciting milestone at the firm, I’m beyond thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow and learn. I’m excited to see what the next 10 years will bring for all of us. 1 —Ashley Boisvert

4 EXPERT-BACKED TIPS FOR BETTER HEALTH

The pursuit of health is a never-ending journey, and there is always more we can do to better ourselves. New revelations about effective lifestyle changes ensure there’s always more to know. NO. 1: DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but busybodies and dieters frequently forgo this morning meal to their detriment. A recent study showed that regular breakfast correlates with a healthy cardiovascular system and a reduced risk of stroke, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. Another study revealed that people who skip breakfast are less likely to lose weight. Breakfast can be anything from buttered toast to yogurt and granola. But the best options are high-protein, low-calorie choices. NO. 2: DRINK COFFEE AFTER BREAKFAST. Speaking of breakfast, wait until after your morning meal for your daily cup of joe. Drinking

so drink water. It’ll abate headaches while giving you better sleep, a sharper mind, and a better mood. It’s recommended that you drink half your body weight in ounces. If you weigh 150 pounds, drink 75 ounces. A reusable water bottle to help measure your intake is an excellent helper in this mission. If you just can’t drink that much, eating fruits and vegetables with high water content can help bridge the gap. NO. 4: DON’T STRESS ABOUT WELLNESS. The purpose of wellness is to improve your life. If you resent and stress about your diet, change it to something that suits you better, like flexible dieting. If you don’t want to wake up early and exercise before work, don’t. The best thing you can do for yourself is stay mindful. Be aware of what, when, and how much of everything you consume. Just don’t stress if you’re not perfect all the time. Everyone makes mistakes, but you can always get back on track.

coffee before you eat can slow your glucose control, causing blood sugar spikes. It will also reduce caffeine’s efficacy, as it increases your cortisol levels too early. NO. 3: KEEP A WATER BOTTLE ON HAND. Hydration is the key to wellness. Every cell in your body demands a constant supply of H 2 O,

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF ON 2 WHEELS As the thrill of the open road beckons riders to hop on their motorcycles for a sunny cruise, it’s crucial to highlight the measures that will keep you safe for all your future rides. This May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, an excellent time to rev up your motorcycle safety plan. By focusing more on the proper protective gear and understanding the traffic laws, you can significantly reduce the risks on the road and ensure every journey is as safe as it is exhilarating. BE AWARE. Despite all the spectacular sights along many of our highways and streets, it’s essential to be present and aware when you are driving. Take special care to avoid some of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents, like another vehicle turning left in front of you, a slippery patch of road, or a car changing lanes near you. You can participate in safety courses that expose you to different scenarios you may face on your bike. WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR. Motorcyclists are more exposed and vulnerable to damage if struck in an accident, so wearing the proper safety gear is critical. Not all states mandate riders wear helmets, but you should always wear one to protect your sensitive brain. You should also cover bare skin, like your arms and legs, with thick material like leather. Boots or other shoes should be sturdy and cover your ankles. Wear eye protection like goggles or install a windshield. Ensuring you are visible to other drivers on the road is also important, so wear some type of reflective gear or vest. DO A SAFETY CHECK. Before you hit the pavement, ensure you and your motorcycle are in complete working condition. Check your tire pressure, brakes, and headlights so you aren’t caught off-guard. Inclement weather can bring on a whole new set of risks, so always check the weather report before your trip so you can prepare accordingly. If you are not feeling well and cannot focus on the road safely, you might want to save the ride for another day. There’s nothing like the thrill of riding a motorcycle when you have peace of mind with all your safety precautions. So, remember these tips next time you’re ready to roll out, and always wear your helmet!

2 tsp ground cumin

1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika Salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS 1. Place chicken in a large resealable plastic bag. Combine all other ingredients in a small bowl. 2. Reserve 1 cup of the sauce and add the rest to the plastic bag. Toss to evenly coat the chicken and marinate overnight. 3. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add remaining sauce and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer to thicken sauce, about 10 minutes. Set aside. 4. On grill set for medium-high heat, arrange chicken skin side down. Cook until grill marks form, about 4 minutes. Flip chicken, cover grill, and cook until a thermometer inserted into thighs reads 165 F, about 20–25 minutes.

5. Serve with remaining sauce.
