forgiveness. Who goes on forgiving—it is an abiding forgiveness. Who doth forgive —it is an assured forgiveness. Who forgiv- eth all—it is a complete forgiveness. It is my own separate and personal forgiveness —all thine iniquities. Forgiveness—it is blessed to come penitently seeking for it ; blessed is it tremblingly to hope for it. It is blessed, though never so timidly, to ven ture to claim it. What, then, is it to have forgiveness as a possession, an assurance, so deep, so full, that all that is within us can sing about it with a chorus of rapture— “who forgiveth all thine iniquities” ! Love like that of our God can only be satisfied with such a plentiful forgiveness. And guilt like ours can only be delivered from its fears by such a perfect pardon. — M a r k G u y P e a r se . FEBRUARY 1 "The eyes of. the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew him self strong in behalf o f them whose heart is perfect toward him” (2 Cor. 16:9). The best and most glorious things in hu man history are simply the story of what God has done ou the behalf o f those who have kept a perfect heart toward Him. The poor world, which sees neither wisdom nor rightness in the command to “cease from man,” thinks and talks much o f what puny man has done, and can d o ; the be liever, taught from above, dwells rather upon what Jehovah has accomplished, and .can accomplish, in alliance with a frail creature who leans only and hard upon Him. “ Be Thou at my right hand, Then can I never fail; Uphold Thou me, and I shall stand; Fight, and I must prevail.” .- —S elected . FEBRUARY 2 “ / am;with you alway” (Matt. 28:20). This is the promise of perpetual presence. As our Lord uttered them, the words were in a different order' from that in our Bible. When they fell from His lips, they would suggest to His disciples that He was the great I AM who was opening His arms to take them to His heart. We have the words, “ I am with you” ; as He said them they ran, “I with you AM .” The emphasis is on the perpetual presence, the two arms opening, and you lying upon His heart: “ I with you AM.” Dr. Weymouth translates “ I am with you always, day by day, even to the close o f the age.” It is always—a perpetual presence; and yet it is day by day -—only one day at a time. This negatives any apprehension that there will ever come a day so dark or,; difficult, iqso cloudy or colorless, that Christ will not be present. —W. Y. F u l l e r t o n . FEBRUARY 3 "Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father” (Matt. 11:25). It was the habit and life of Jesus to talk with God. May we likewise have silent fellowship with the Father, so that often we may answer Him, and though the world wotteth not to whom we speak, may we be responding to that secret voice unheard of any other ear, which our own ear, opened by the Spirit o f God, recognizes with joy. What a privilege is intimate communion with the Father of our spirits! It is a secret hidden from the world, a j oy with which even the nearest friend intermed- dleth not. This very day may our hearts be in such a state, that when God speaks to us, we, like Jesus, may be prepared at once to answer Him.— C h a r l e s H a d d o n S p u r g e o n .
