September 2022
We have now entered the month before the holiday season kicks off — where has this year gone? Temperatures are starting to drop, kids are starting to think about and plan their Halloween costumes, and soon, we will have pumpkin spice everything! But, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, September is an important month, too. On Monday, Sept. 5, we celebrate Labor Day! For most, it’s a day off of work, and traditionally, the day means it’s time to barbecue and celebrate the end of summer; however, it means so much more. On Labor Day, we pay tribute to the achievements and contributions of the many hard workers in our country. Over the past few years, with the struggles of COVID-19 and inflation, I have observed how our clients, my friends, my family members, those in my community, and strangers in the grocery store all work much harder to make ends meet, and on Labor Day, we celebrate each other. To my team here at Malloy Law Offices, you all make the magic happen for our clients, and I appreciate each and every one of you! Along with Labor Day comes the back-to-school season, and over the past few years, parents, myself included, have been a bit more hesitant to send our children back for the next school year. Coronavirus was and still is a major concern, and now with recent school tragedies, it’s understandable to give a second thought to home-schooling or to feel some apprehension and fear — I know I do. And, it’s tough to not live in fear and be strong for our children. I think the best advice I can offer any parent is to take some time to talk to your children about school violence and their safety. Discussing traumatic events with them can be extremely challenging, but steering the conversation can help them feel safe. It’s important they understand that school is a safe place, and they can help to make it even safer by being observant and reporting anything that doesn’t seem right to a trusted adult, whether it be a teacher, guidance counselor, or school resource officer. Do You Feel That? Back-to-School Season Is Here!
Thus, it’s important that your children maintain strong relationships with their educators, guidance counselors, and police officers on their school campus. As parents, we too can remain tightly connected by participating in school activities and events when we are able. Letting our children know that home is a safe place to discuss anything they may be concerned about is also key. When we see something terrible happening on the news, it’s so easy to react with drastic measures to keep our children safe. But before you make any big decisions, talk with your children, your family, your partner, and the team of adults at your child’s school. We all share the same goal to keep our children safe — let’s work together!
I wish all of you a happy fall season and look forward to welcoming the holidays!

Though we may not always think about it, balance is essential to just about everything we do in our daily routines. From simply getting out of bed, leaning over to tie our shoes, or even walking to the mailbox, we need good balance to keep ourselves steady while performing normal tasks. Know why balance is important. Balance is the ability to control your body’s position, whether stationary or moving. It is a key component of fitness that many people neglect while developing their fitness regimen. Balance training is a great way to help your body recognize where it is and control movements in a given space. When the body knows where its limbs are in space — known as proprioception — it is able to produce smooth, controlled movements with fewer risks of injuries. Reaction time and agility are also improved with balance training. The body learns how to quickly correct itself but not overcompensate and has the ability to quickly change direction effectively and efficiently. Though balance training is important for everyone, it is especially important for those who have problems due to illness, weakness, or dizziness. It allows them to overcome stiffness or unsteadiness and to develop an awareness of body segments and how to align them. These exercises help with balance. Balance training involves exercises to strengthen the muscles that help keep you upright and improve stability. These types of exercises can be done as often as you like or even every day. Today, social media has taken the world by storm! If you’re looking for the latest trends in beauty, travel, food, music, or fashion, social media sites such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest are fun places to check out. You can find the best deals on electronics, new hair styles, or a new cleaning hack. Have you heard the term, “TikTok made me buy it”? It’s now a popular catch phrase because it’s true — social media can be convincing. Sometimes, it can be tough to remember social media is not built on a foundation of facts. But here are some reasons to be cautious about trusting everything you read and see: Not everything is up to date. Things you see on social media don’t always have an official date stamp, and even if there is one, many people don’t bother to pay much attention to it before they watch, share, like, and comment. In today’s world, things rapidly change and evolve, so it’s important to pay attention to dates. Rarely is social media content in context. Screenshots, memes, posts, and statements are usually taken way out of context on social media platforms. When anything BE SKEPTICAL ABOUT EVER DON’T TAKE IT
Consider trying the following exercises: •
Standing with your weight on one leg and raising the other leg to the side or behind you. Putting one heel right in front of the other foot, as if you were walking a tightrope. Standing up and sitting down from a chair without using your hands.
•
•
• Walking while alternating knee lifts with each step. • Stretching and gentle movement as part of yoga or chi.
Take a Break
Balance is essential to living a healthy, functional life. It’s important to incorporate balance
training into your fitness regimen. That way you can decrease the risk of injuries and help move freely and confidently.

RYTHING ON SOCIAL MEDIA AT FACE VALUE
is taken out of context, it can be used to prove or even disprove virtually anything. Sometimes people lie. When hiding behind a screen, people’s fingers can fly on the keyboard, and the result may be a lie or the partial or twisted truth. Don’t forget that while logged on to social media, you need to always fact check.
Technology was created to make our lives easier, and though it simplifies our daily routines, it can be a hassle to maintain — especially if there are cords involved. Keeping the power flowing to multiple devices requires a plethora of cords that can get tangled and annoying. Also, as time goes by, cords may break or simply stop working. Organizing and preserving the quality of your electronics is the best way to extend their longevity, and with these tips, you can save a few headaches along with some money. Tidy up your cords. When you have tons of cords and cables attached to your desk and power strips, they can become a tangled mess. You end up pulling the wrong cord because they all look the same, and it’s a pain to figure out which is which. A great way to fix this is to use binder clips! You can clip them onto your desk to keep cords separate and in one place. Take it up a notch by using colored/patterned binder clips. Assigning specific colors to certain cords lets you find the one you need at any moment. Protect your cords. Smartphone and laptop chargers aren’t cheap by any means. Since we use them so often, the cord that attaches to the device is susceptible to fraying and breaking. If you have some painter’s tape lying around, take a small piece and wrap it around the cord close to the connectors on both sides! The tape acts as a brace and keeps your charger cord sturdy. Organize extra cables and cords. If you’re like most people, you probably have a bag or box of tangled wires and cables somewhere. It can become an organizer’s worst nightmare, but there’s a better way. First, find an old shoe box and several empty toilet paper rolls. Then, place the rolls upright in a shoebox, wrap each cord up separately, and place them inside the rolls (one per roll) to keep them separate but together. Maintaining our electronics, especially the cords, allows our technology to continue working for us without worry or breaking the bank. Try these hacks and watch how untangled your cords and life can be! TANGLED UP IN CORDS? 3 TIPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR ELECTRONICS
It may go without saying, but especially when it comes to legal advice you find circulating on social media sites, take everything with a grain of salt — laws are different in each city, county, and state, and it’s tough to be sure the information is credible or true. Make sure you’re familiar with the signs that the heat may be a bit too much. Here are some early symptoms to look out for: HOW TO STAY SAFE IN THE SUMMER HEAT
As summer draws to a close, we all are soaking up the last bit of summer sun, enjoying the last of our seasonal vacations,
In extreme temperatures, humans run the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. If the temperature is expected to be extra hot, try to schedule your time outdoors for early morning or late afternoon hours when the sun isn’t at its peak! Practice car safety. Before entering your car in extreme temperatures, let the vehicle air out with the air conditioning running for a few minutes, allowing the interior cabin temperature time to drop a bit. As a reminder, never, under any circumstances, leave a child unattended in a vehicle. A child’s body heats up much faster than an adult’s, and they run an even higher risk of heat-related maladies. Don’t forget sunscreen. If you plan to be outside, wear protective clothing and always lather up in sunscreen!
