Business Science Institute president Michel Kalika details the expertise and experience that the Institute can bring to the partnership How does the Manchester Met partnership fit with BSI’s international strategy? The partnership is fully aligned with our international development strategy. Since 2012, BSI has developed a distinctive international, multilingual and network-based DBA model for experienced executives, consultants and entrepreneurs, making rigorous doctoral education accessible while maintaining a common academic framework focused on research-based managerial and organisational impact. This strategy is visible in our partnerships, delivery sites and DBA community: 243 graduates from 46 countries and 213 active doctoral candidates from 44 countries. These figures show a genuinely international DBA ecosystem combining reach, academic consistency and close candidate support. The Manchester Met partnership enables participants to obtain two separate DBA awards: one from the Business Science Institute and one from Manchester Metropolitan University.

In this partnership, BSI brings established DBA expertise, an international doctoral community and a support model designed for senior professionals. What are your ambitions for the partnership over the coming years? We hope is to develop a strong, visible and sustainable international DBA partnership for experienced professionals who want to use research to generate meaningful impact. The DBA is increasingly relevant as leaders address complex problems, make evidence-based decisions and contribute to organisational transformation. Together with Man Met, we want to strengthen international recognition of this doctoral pathway among senior professionals seeking a qualification that combines academic credibility with direct relevance to practice. We also see opportunities for joint research in shared areas including transformations in work, sustainability and organisational responsibility, information overload and organisational fatigue. More broadly, we want to show that the DBA can be academically rigorous and connected to real organisational challenges. By combining Man Met’s academic strengths with our established DBA expertise and international community, the partnership can support a distinctive model of doctoral education: international, practice-based, research-driven and focused on impact. For us, the DBA is more than a degree; it is a pathway for experienced professionals to generate managerial, organisational and societal impact.
Dr Sarah Crozier is an associate professor in the Centre for Decent Work and Productivity at Manchester Metropolitan University, a chartered psychologist and academic lead for the DBA programme. She has over 20 years’ practitioner and academic experience, having worked in government and industry before joining Man Met in 2010. She has published widely, supervised doctoral students to completion, and co-chairs the organisational psychology special interest group at the British Academy of Management
Professor Michel Kalika is the president of the Business Science Institute – Groupe IGENSIA Education. He previously held senior academic positions at Université Paris-Dauphine, where he created the MBA and DBA programmes, and at EM Strasbourg Business School, where he served as dean. He is the founder of the Business School Impact System, developed for FNEGE and EFMD, and used by over 100 business schools internationally. He has authored or co-authored numerous books and articles on management, strategy and information systems

What does BSI contribute in terms of DBA expertise and candidate support? BSI brings more than a decade of specialised experience in doctoral education for senior professionals. DBA candidates are experienced practitioners undertaking rigorous research while holding significant organisational responsibilities, so they need support combining academic rigour, flexibility, structure and close guidance. Our expertise lies in helping candidates turn managerial or organisational issues into robust research projects with academic and practical impact, supported by seminars, methodological guidance, international faculty expertise and structured supervision.
