Faculty at Loughborough Business School in the UK reveal their sense of shared purpose, along with their ambition to enhance the institution’s positive impact on individuals, business and wider society
As she notes: “We need to try and find ways of doing business that decouple consumption from production and better balance the environmental and societal outcomes.” Partnerships are central to this, with director of global external engagement Zeynep Aycan explaining how the school’s motto underpins its stakeholder interactions. “We need to create better futures and we need to do it together. While doing that, we would like to collaborate with partners who agree or align with our value of progress with purpose. We’re very careful in selecting our partners in research, teaching and business engagement.”
Loughborough Business School’s mission of “progress with purpose” comes to the fore in this episode of the Leading the Future docuseries. “Progress with purpose is about asking how we can ensure that each individual – whether they are a student or member of faculty – achieves their individual purpose,” declares the school’s dean, Janet Godsell, before adding “and more importantly, how do we then work with those purpose-driven organisations to deliver it?” Godsell explains how the business school’s mission is designed to help students and staff fulfil the wider Loughborough University’s strategy of “creating better futures together”.
IMPACT & COMMUNITY The school’s mission is a stance for which it hopes to become known, as chair of the school strategic advisory board Steven Clarke reveals. “The point of progress with purpose is for the school to become the first choice for businesses, students and academics who want to have an impact on the world beyond business.” In pursuing its ambitions, Loughborough Business School is aided by an enviable campus environment and a sense of camaraderie that is evident among members of its community. “If you come to campus, there’s a feeling of collegiality,” shares Godsell. “That is, in part, a spill-over from the sporting prowess of Loughborough University, but it permeates
