The Industrial Revolution did not make human beings unnecessary. It changed what human beings were able to accomplish with machines. In telecommunications, this could mean networks that are more intelligent, services that are more personalised, problems that are solved before customers even notice them, and stronger protection against digital and cyber threats. But behind all of these developments, there will still be human decisions, human creativity, and human responsibility. It’s all going to work out Looking at the bigger picture, the cycle of revolution, change, and adaptation has always been part of human history. It is almost part of our DNA. One technological revolution creates the conditions for the next one, and it is impossible to know exactly what the next revolution will look like. What we can say with more certainty is that humans will continue to have an important role in telecommunications and in every other industry. Humans are not only the creators and users of technology; we are also the ones who define what problems technology should solve and what kind of future we want to create. AI itself does not have an independent purpose. Its value comes from the way humans choose to use it. The future, therefore, should not be understood as AI replacing humans, but as humans becoming more capable through AI. The Industrial Revolution gave humanity greater physical power. AI is giving us greater mental and digital power. What we do with that power will ultimately remain a human decision.
In this sense, we are not simply creating another tool. We are creating a new form of interaction between humans and technology. This new relationship can make the creation of products, solutions, and services much faster and more precise. It can reduce operational costs, improve decision-making, accelerate innovation, and create significant economic advantages for organisations. But perhaps the most important benefit is not the technology itself. It is what the technology gives back to people: time. If AI can take over repetitive, time- consuming, and highly structured tasks, people can spend more time on activities that require creativity, critical thinking, empathy, leadership, judgment, and human interaction. How the Tech Revolution is Different This is also why I don’t believe the main story of AI should be about replacing humans. The more important question is how AI can help humans become more capable. The Industrial Revolution did not make human beings unnecessary. It changed what human beings were able to accomplish with machines. AI has the potential to do something similar for our minds. AI will always depend on human interaction, direction, and creativity. Therefore, as long as humans remain responsible for how AI is developed, controlled, and used, the efficiency and security provided by human involvement will remain a key factor in every industry, including telecommunications. AI can become extremely powerful, but its value will ultimately depend on the way humans guide it, apply it, and define the purpose behind its use. Creativity will also become increasingly important. The ability to create more innovative products and services can bring the telecommunications industry to the next level. The challenge will not only be to develop new technologies for telecom networks, but to find new ways of combining these technologies with AI. This interaction between humans, AI, and telecommunications technology can become complementary, allowing companies to develop better, faster, safer, and more accessible services for customers and users.
Telecoms – a great case study
Telecommunications networks are becoming increasingly complex, while companies are under constant pressure to reduce costs, improve quality, and provide services faster. AI can support this transformation by creating more advanced and automated processes. One example is access to technical knowledge. In telecommunications, there can be thousands of documents, technical specifications, configurations, procedures, reports, and historical records. Traditionally, engineers may need to search through many different sources to find the information they need. AI can change this process by bringing this knowledge together through a single intelligent interface. Instead of spending hours searching for information, an engineer can ask a question and receive relevant information almost immediately. The same technology can support programming, testing, troubleshooting, service management, and network optimisation. This means that problems in telecommunications networks that might previously have taken hours or even days to investigate could potentially be identified and resolved much faster. Our relationship with AI AI can also improve digital services and contribute to stronger cybersecurity. By continuously analysing large amounts of information and identifying unusual patterns, AI can help detect potential threats earlier and support faster responses. As more services become digital, the ability to protect those services becomes increasingly important.
However, there is something even more interesting happening in this transformation.
The relationship between humans and technology is changing.
For a long time, humans created technology and then used it as a tool. A person operated a machine, gave it instructions, and expected it to perform a specific task. With AI, the relationship becomes more interactive. Humans can communicate with technology in a much more natural way, ask questions, explore ideas, and work together with intelligent systems to reach an outcome.
