• Judge Michelle Saunders, District Court in Calvert County , continued the mental health docket, which is scheduled for the last Wednesday of every month. This program has been expanded to include two court sessions instead of one. Calvert Behavioral Health provides initial evaluations for the participants and provides progress updates to the court as the cases move forward. The cases are reviewed by the mental health team prior to the docket each month. • The District Court in Charles County provided a COVID-19 vaccination clinic and testing site that was open to the public. On the first day of the clinic, there were 46 appointments scheduled. The clinic provided COVID tests and vaccinations on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Wednesdays were also the local farmer’s market day, which may have contributed to the success of the clinics due to the volume of customers that visited. Dockets were also set in all three courtrooms on those days, which brought more people to the area. • On May 25, the Charles County Family Recovery Court (FRC) held its first in-person graduation ceremony since March 2020. Local dignitaries, community partners, and graduates along with their families attended the event that also included outdoor activities, overdose awareness and prevention education, and a reception at Tilghman Lake Park. • The St. Mary’s County Teen Court , which has a longstanding relationship with the District Court, shifted to a virtual platform for fiscal year 2021; however, it is expected that this program will return to an in-person format using the courtrooms next year. This program receives referrals from the Department of Juvenile Services, the state’s attorney’s office, and the court.
• In October 2021, with the collaboration of Judge Andrea R. S. Watkins, District Court in Charles County , Public Defender Katey Batey, and State’s Attorney Tiffany Campbell, a monthly Mental Health Docket was initiated. The docket is scheduled on the second Friday of every month.
