District 12 - Allegany and Garrett

• The District Court in Allegany County is the proud recipient of the 2020 Everngam Cup, which staff received in 2021. Named for the late Judge Gary G. Everngam, District Court in Montgomery County, who chaired the Judicial Council’s Court Technology Committee and championed the security education and awareness program, the award recognizes the court location with the highest completion rate for Information Security’s security training. In 2021, the District Court in Allegany County was the first to achieve a training assignment completion rate of 100% for the year. • The District Court in Allegany County is working with the Office of Problem-Solving Courts to create a specialty diversion docket for individuals with mental health issues that are contributing to their court involvement. Judge Erich Bean, District Court in Allegany County, will work to assist those individuals to receive treatment and resources necessary to treat underlying issues that result in contact with the criminal justice system.

• The District Court in Allegany and Garrett counties opens its courtroom doors to local high school students to participate in a mock trial each winter. This project brings students into the courts and helps them get an understanding of how the judicial system operates.
