CAMPING IS OUR FAVORITE WAY TO UNPLUG
the monthly hale
We are all so busy — we go and go and go, right up until our heads hit the pillow, and when we get up the next morning, it’s time to do it all over again. When do we ever really catch a break? On March 3, we celebrated The National Day of Unplugging, a time when the importance of setting electronics and social media aside is brought
From our family to yours, here are some of our favorite camping tips and activities to share!
Camping Tips 1. Precooked Meals
Before you head out to the campsite, whip up some pre- cooked meals. Chili is always a great option and one of our go- to’s. We pack it in a gallon-sized ziplock in a cooler and heat the chili over the campfire at night. It’s a quick and easy family favorite!
to light. Have you ever taken a day or two just to unplug and disconnect? Technology is great, but sometimes, we can all get carried away by it.

are great because everyone can get involved and has the option to choose what they want to add to their foil packets. We often do potatoes, shrimp, corn, and sausage. Then, we add our favorite seasoning (we like Old Bay seasoning with a squeeze of lemon) and put the foil packet on the grill.
In our family, camping is one of our favorite ways to unplug. One of our favorite local campsites is Malaekahana Beach

4. Keep It Simple Remember that you don’t need a ton of camping gear and don’t have to cook every meal. Sometimes, we’ve even had pizza delivered to us! The most important part of camping is being together and bonding!

It was a beautiful, sunny day, and our daughter was about 6 years old — she was outside playing and enjoying the fresh air and warm sun’s rays when she came across a piece of trash. Recalling what we’ve taught her to do, she picked it up off the ground, threw it away in a nearby garbage can, and resumed playing. LET’S SPREAD KINDNESS BY LIFTING OTHERS, WE RISE TOGETHER

“Jason and Sachi made our home-selling experience completely smooth and pain- free, especially because we moved
from Hawaii to Colorado midway through the process. Jason was a
master at organizing and coordinating all aspects of preparing our home for the open
house and eventual sale, and Sachi’s keen eye for style and decorative taste in staging our home resulted in a final sales price that far exceeded our expectations by nearly $200k.
A random passerby had witnessed her actions and, out of the goodness of their heart, handed our daughter a $100 bill, rewarding her for her kindness in keeping our Earth clean. In more ways than one, this reminded our family of the importance of being kind to others without expecting anything in return, as well as how crucial it is to take care of our planet. For all of us, Hawaii is our home, and it’s up to us to keep it clean and sustainable for future generations, wildlife, and nature to thrive. Kindness is an essential part of our human nature, no matter how small the act may be. It’s something that we can give to others without losing anything of our own or expecting anything in return. Kindness doesn’t need to encompass a reward as it did in our daughter’s situation — it can mean holding the door for a stranger, lifting someone up when they are having a bad day, or offering assistance to those who need it. In today’s society, we all have somewhere to be, expectations to meet, and schedules to adhere to — life can get a little crazy. But we can all take a few moments out of our day to share kindness. With this attitude, we can surely make the world a better place for all of us. As the saying goes, “Kindness doesn’t cost a thing!”
Jason communicated extremely well throughout the entire experience and was able to expertly anticipate and avoid potential hiccups during the home sale process. Jason accurately assessed the market and posted a competitive asking price that generated multiple offers within days. He and Sachi alleviated our anxiety at every level, and we could not recommend a more knowledgeable and competent husband and wife team than the Mitchells. Thank you so much for helping us get the maximum sale price for our home, especially in an extremely challenging
O‘AHU HOME SALES PICK MONTH, REMAIN DOWN Y SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES ARE TAKING NEARLY FOUR TIMES LONGER TO SELL, AND
O‘ahu’s housing market remained sluggish in February, with closed sales of single-family homes and condos down 28.2% and 33.1%, respectively. However, single-family home sales rose 15.3%, and condo sales increased by 18.2% compared to January 2023. Median sales prices in both markets declined, dipping 12.3% for single-family homes from $1,125,000 to $987,000 compared to 2022. The condo market experienced a modest 3.4% decline from $497,000 to $480,000. Roughly 189 O‘ahu properties sold for under $500,000 in February. In February 2023, single-family homes nearly quadrupled the median days on market, skyrocketing to 47 days compared to 13 days in February 2022. The median days on market for condos doubled to 28 days compared to 14 days a year ago. Compared to a year ago, O‘ahu’s housing market has undergone a significant change as all aspects have shown a slowdown in activity, with properties remaining on the market for a much longer amount of time before closing. Average mortgage rates have almost doubled from what they were one year ago, which has tremendously reduced buyer purchasing power.

4 Meet Van Gogh, the Painting Dog
ONE-EARED RESCUE DOG BECOMES MASTER PAINTER VAN GOGH REINCARNATED?
When a one-eared shelter dog in Connecticut struggled to find a new family last year, one of his caretakers had a wild idea: Why not teach him to paint? With help from TikTok and peanut butter, the aptly named Van Gogh became a social media star.
Gartner covered small canvases in dollops of paint, wrapped them in plastic wrap, and slathered them in peanut butter. Then, she presented the treats to the boxer-pit bull mix. He quickly licked the canvases clean, creating his “art” along the way. According to the Post, Van Gogh’s first few paintings flopped — just like the work of the human artist Vincent Van Gogh, who didn’t become famous until after he died in 1890. This star rose thanks to Jo Van Gogh, the wife of his brother Theo, who advocated for his work after both Theo and Vincent passed away. You could say that Gartner was dog Van Gogh’s Jo because, like the original painter’s, the pup’s art staged a comeback! After his first “art show” drew just two guests, Gartner started auctioning off his paintings online. His abstract work like “Peacock Swirl” and a rendition of human Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” quickly raised more than $3,000 for Happily Furever After Rescue. As his reputation soared on social media, Van Gogh also found his forever home with shelter volunteer Jessica Starowitz. He now spends his days painting and lounging on the couch. You can follow his exploits on Instagram under the handle @officialvgdog.
“I’d seen TikTok videos of other dogs creating paintings, so why not Van Gogh?” Jaclyn Gartner, the founder of Happily Furever After Rescue, told The Washington Post. “He certainly had the name and the ear for it.” To leverage what she calls Van Gogh’s “fast and creative tongue,”
