Opioid Litigation Frantz Law Group is currently representing school districts across the country in the federal opioid litigation in an effort to seek restitution for opioid related costs and financial losses from the billions of dollars spent battling what has been labeled the “worst man-made epidemic in modern medical history.” School Districts are seeking damages for the cost of additional services at the school to protect the health and welfare of the children and community. These educational expenses include (but are not limited to) training school nurses, resource officers and others onsite (to appropriately treat drug overdoses on campus), providing mental health services for students and families suffering from addiction, and increasing school security, monitoring and surveillance efforts to mitigate the influx of opiods into schools. These lawsuits are filed in the Northern District of Ohio and are part of more than 2,000 other lawsuits in multidistrict litigation against manufacturers including Purdue Pharma, Johnson & Johnson, Actavis Pharma Inc and retailers including CVS, Walgreens and Walmart. The lawsuits contend, in part that drug manufacturers across the United States conspired to create “deceptive” marketing strategies to downplay the risks of opioids and exaggerate the drugs’ benefits and intended to increase corporate profit all to the demise and detriment of so many young people across the nation. Drug overdoses are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 399,000 deaths from 1999 to 2017 have been attributed to opioid addiction and overdose.
