prayer! How little do we realize its importance! “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Lk. 18:1) . . . Just eight words tell the story of the kind of recep tion which Jabez’ prayer received: “And God granted him that which he requested.” If we would be “more honorable” men and women, let us pray the prayer that Jabez prayed.— The Voice. MARCH 12 A Test of Spirituality “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; consider ing thyself, lest thou also be tempted” (Gal. 6:1). It is impossible to help a brother to. attain a plane to which we ourselves have not attained. You can’t pull a man higher than you are. Carnal Christians can be of little if any help to carnal Christians. A spiritual Christian can be of great help. . . . A woman was talking with a China man about his soul. He asked her if she danced, played cards, or went to the theater. She replied that she did not. And he said, “Then you can talkee to me.” . . . Restoration is to be done in the spirit of meekness. A haughty, “holier than thou” spirit gets one nowhere. The restoration o f an erring brother will be a test of our spiritualityMSELECTED. There are many precious things in the Book that are yet to be found out, and if we come in the right spirit we may be made the discoverers of some of them. This is certain: However frequently we traverse the field, we shall perceive some fresh vein of gold, and we shall wonder how our eyes were holden that we did not see it before. . . . David was not unenlight ened in the Scriptures, but his acquaintance with them made him long for more and more light upon them, so he prayed: “ Open thou mine eyes.” Shall we not approach God’s wonderful Word with this prayer? Wondrous things are in our hand. The Word is very nigh us. “ Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold.” —Sure Foundation Scripture Studies. MARCH 13 Opened Eyes “ Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law ’’ (Psa. 119:18). “1 beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable serv ice" (Rom. 12:1). Consecration :is voluntary. “I beseech you . . . that ye present your bodies” . . . You must do it yourself, o f your own free will. The first condition of the ancient burnt offering was: “He shall offer it of his own voluntary will” (Lev. 1:3) . . . Consecration is hearty. It is drawn forth, not by the fear of punishment, but by the remembrance of mercies, and the glad response o f a living, believing heart . . . It is a very definite consecration: “ Present your bodies.” Consecration is not merely some emotional sense of spiritual ecstasy, but it is a real, practical contract for serv ice .. . It is a spiritual consecration—“your reasonable service.” You are not only to give your outward members, but also your I MARCH 14 What Is Consecration?
