When fearful of the future, it is good to recall God’s love and goodness in the past. Who can count the number of God’s de liverances since we set out at the beginning o f life’s rugged road? He has wonder fully supplied our every need so fa r ; think then He will fail us at the end o f the road? Begone, such base and faithless fears! “ From the bottom of myjieart,” wrote Luther to Melanchthon, “I am against these worrying cares which are taking the heart out of you. Why make God a liar in not believing His wonderful promises, when He commands us to be of good cheer and cast all our cares on Him for He will sustain us? . . . Why then worry, seeing He is at the helm ?”E A rthur H edley . . MARCH 22 A Weekly Reminder "The Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath” '(Ids. 6:5). Every time the Christian Sunday comes round, it preaches to us the message that Christ is risen and exalted. . . . If .Christ, died on the cross in order to release us from our sins, and if He rose again for our justification, what manner of men and women ought we to be ? . . . The Christian Sunday is preeminently a soul-winning opportunity. . . . Just as every time we date a letter we remind ourselves of otir blessed Lord’s incarnation, so every week as Sun day dawns, we remind ourselves o f the Easter triumph. This remembrance should be sufficient to send us forth as our Lord’s witnesses, and make us eager and ardent to enlist men in His holy service. WM—Life of Faith. MARCH 23 The Imperative of Holiness ' "Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Pet. 1:16). Undoubtedly Peter had Leviticus 11:44 in mind, yet there is a difference. God, by the Holy Spirit, has changed the impera tive command, “ Ye shall be holy,” into a loving invitation: "Be ye holy.” In the Word, we have both the imperative and the tender, loving invitation, placing double emphasis on the necessity of personal and Scriptural holiness . . . Why are believers exhorted and commanded to be holy? Be cause the Lord is holy! The “Holy One of Israel” (Psa. 78:41) was one of God’s dis tinctive names . . . “I am holy” was and is His declaration. “ Be ye holy; for I am holy.”— R obert L ee . MARCH 24 God Is Able “I was ashamed to require . . . a band o f soldiers” ( Ezra 8 :22). The great lesson to be gleaned from Ezra is that the Lord is on the side of him who sides with the Lord. To enlist the help of the world is at once a weakening of the cause and a certain means of bring ing the Lord’s name into dishonor, as though He could not take care o f those whom He sends forth to do His bidding. Happy is the Christian who can believe, as did Ezra, that God alone is sufficient, walk ing in the power of this truth. He will have no need for panic, however fiercely his interests may be threatened by the forces of the enemy. —Evangelical Christian. MARCH 25 Developing Sweetness “It is good for me that I have been afflicted” (Psa. 119:71).

The fruit of some trees, like the syca more fig, will not ripen until it is bruised. The prophet Amos was a bruiser o f syca more figs.‘ “They were struck with a long staff, and then, after being wounded, they sweetened. How like many of us! How many of us seem as if we never would be sweet till first we had been dipped in bit terness ! . . . W e may trace many of our sharp trials, our bereavements, and our bodily pains to the fact that we are such sour fruit; nothing will ripen us but heavy blows.” There is much truth in these words of Spurgeon. Very likely every one of us who aspires to be the very best we can be for God, . . . will also have to learn this truth— K . M . M c R itchie . MARCH 26 Forgiveness Begets Love “ Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved « i " (Eph. 5:2). Let Simon sit, smug and critical, tearless and cold, in his Pharisaical pride, despising alike the Forgiver and the forgiven; with him we have nothing in common, for we have sinned much and been forgiven much; we are much loved and must love much in
