return. We do not sit with the Pharisee, but we fall with the sinner at those feet which were beautiful upon the mountains, bringing good tidings and publishing peace, feet that were pierced and wounded for us at Calvary, the feet of Jesus. There we pour out our gratitude and our adoration and feel the strength of those cords of love that bind our hearts to our Saviour and make us His willing slaves forever. For to whom much is forgiven, the same loveth much.—J. T. M aw so n . MARCH 27 “ I Can Plod” “Instant in season, out of season” (2 Tim. 4:2). Undoubtedly the world owes a great deal to men of genius, but it is doubtful whether it owes, as much to such as to men of dogged perseverance . . . Perseverance is needed in every phase o f the Christian life. Nothing is obtained in the spiritual realm by a hop-skip-and-jump, so to speak. Every victory will cost br'ain sweat and soul agony . . . When William Carey began thinking of going to India as a pioneer missionary, his father pointed out to him that he possessed no academic qualifica tions that would fit him for such a task. But William Carey answered: “ I can plod.” . . . Those who accomplish things for the glory of God and the good of humanity are ploddersg-K. M . M c R itchie . MARCH 28 Our Position in Christ “ That .. . . he might gather together in one all things in. Christ” (Eph. 1 :10). The Son is the great “ Steward” of the Father’s house; thefkeys of all its life and

history are in His hands1. And His “man agement” will at length conduct the whole operation to a goal, placed and dated by God’s own prescient wisdom. Then all the “ seasons” of the story.of redemption will attain their “ fulness,” will be fulfilled, ac complished, so that the actual result shall correspond to the divine ideal . . . In Christ, we were as a fact taken into the in heritance, so as to become “the Lord’s por tion” (Deut. 32:9), not only in purpose but in act.— H andley C. G. M oule . MARCH 29 He Faileth Not “I veill never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Heb. 13:5). Each happy morn when I awake, This promise for the day I take, “ I’ll never leave thee, nor forsake.” . He faileth not. How sweet His word unto my soul, " To cleanse from sin and make me Whole, o To cheer, encourage, and'console 1 He faileth n ot/' He bears my burdens, carries, too, My cares and sorrows, all life through, How good the promise, and how true! He faileth not. — E dw in R. M iles . MARCH 30 God Our Habitation "Because thou hast made the Lord . . . thy habitation" (Psa. 91:9). “Habitation” differs from a place of sojourn in this: You may stop for a night

in a place where you are sojourning, but you dwell in the place that you inhabit. Jesus says: “I f ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” This implies that there are some believing chil dren o f God that do not thus abide in Christ, and in whom His words do not thus abide, and so their prayers have little power . . . The psalm tells us that the dear child o f God that enjoys such security as this, is the believer that does not run to God for a refuge only in the time of some special temptation or danger, but whose habitual place of abode is God. K - A . T. P ierson . Who is there, . . . who. does not frequent l y ' stand in sore need of guidance amid life’s multitudinous perplexities? Brought to a place where two ways meet, we feel utterly unable to decide which of them we ought to take. Or, hedged in by apparently insurmountable difficulties, and beset by doubts and fears, we see no way o f escape. At such a time as this, when human coun selors all fail us, and we have not a glim mer of light to illumine our path, we may turn with unwavering trust to the Giver of all wisdom, and find that He will guide us all the way, and will fulfill the promise in Proverbs 4:12: “When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened,” or, as it may be more literally rendered, “ As thou goest, step by step, I will open up the way before thee.”— Life of Faith. MARCH 31 • Guidance A ll the W ay “ When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt^not stumble" (Prov. 4:12).
