Last Friday in prayer meeting, I came close to God again and promised about prayer and read ing Bible every day always. And after, I remained with others to seek knowledge of baptism. To my astonish, Matsu Chan also remained and answered all questions clearly. I did not know he had become Christian so strongly, but he says he has been led by me. When did I lead him? I do not know, but I feel it very wonderful. So today this afternoon, our church went to Shakuji Lake. The train journey was small and most pleasant, for Mr. and Mrs. McEdward began singing, and we all joined as in morning worship. I felt my head prickle with joy as we thus boldly filled the car with Christianity, for not even at the stations did we cease. Many people stared at our happy hinging mouths and heard joyous words of Christ. There was a beautiful road to the lake through field and wood, and now we sang— One step after one step, Placing feet in His footprints, The country people perhaps thought we were mad, for they followed close along to see what we would do. There were many new Christians, about thirty-five, I think, as some came from other churches I did not acquainted. The women went into the swimming house and put on light summer kimono. So we also did by the beach. Pastor Fujimoto prayed so loudly that all the people could under stand. He also speeched shortly about the meaning of baptism. Mrs. McEdward led in the singing, as she has very lovely voice. And one by one, we men passed down into the water. After us came the women and girls. Mr. Mc Edward said to kneel down, we did. It was not cold, for the sun had shined over the hill onto the golden water, and now the sky was all magnificent fire. Then in a loud voice he spoke all our name and dipped us forward under the water, in respect to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I rejoiced to be true Christian, washed from my sins and born to new life. Many songs were sung, and many cried, “Ah-men!” It was so happy a time as I never knew. One girl from other church was quite blind, so she was led in all the way by Pastor. They were singing then— He is building a beautiful house For me in the country far away, Where I shall look on the dear face of Him That now I love without sight. And as she came up out o f the water with the good pastor leading her, she held high the other hand and sang with such voice as I never heard. It must be as they sing in the Heavenly Country. Her face also seemed as if the sun came suddenly upon it. Indeed, I looked to see if it had shined out again, but it was quite hidden. We all spilled tears to see her, and I wonder still how such joy could fold around us. I wish we might live always at Shakuji Lake.
