The company presented the lowest bid for the supply contract but the price is about $36,000 more than the money allocated in the 2023 budget. Selon Google Maps, la déviation ajoute cinq minutes sup- plémentaires à un trajet dans la région pour un véhicule de tourisme. I am also interested in environmental initiatives that benefit those of low socio-economic troubles or general enrollment and communities.” Student Trustees attend regular meet- ings of the UCDSB Board of Trustees and provide brief reports to the board, serve as chair (Virk) and vice-chair (Ali) of the Stu- dent Senate, and have the opportunity to attend Ontario Student Trustee Association’s (OSTA-AECO) conferences. The senate is comprised of student representatives from each UCDSB secondary school, including TR Leger School of Adult, Alternative and Con- tinuing Education, and a representative from the Indigenous Leadership Program (iLead) and Akwesasne. Senators meet four times a year, plus monthly supplementary meetings to discuss matters related to school climate and culture.
Two new student trustees were elected by the UCDSB Student Senate for the 2023-2024 school year. During the annual Student Trustee Election that was held February 28, the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) Student Sen- ate elected two new student trustees for the 2023-2024 school year. Nominations were open from December 12, 2022 to February 13, 2023 for all UCDSB students, and three candidates were shortlisted for the election. The three candidates were given the op- portunity to address the senate and outline their goals and vision for their time in office. Le réseau agroalimentaire de l’Est de l’Ontario s’est présenté devant les CUPR pour demander le renouvellement de son accord de financement triennal. Lors de la réunion du comité plénier du 8 mars, le conseil des Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR) a reçu une demande de financement de la part du Réseau agroa- limentaire de l’Est de l’Ontario (RAEO). Leur entente de financement de trois ans avec les CUPR arrive à échéance et, dans l’intérêt d’une collaboration continue, l’RAEO demande un renouvellement. Le réseau agroalimentaire est un orga- nisme à but non lucratif qui se consacre à la coordination du développement et du dialogue dans le secteur agroalimentaire de l’est de l’Ontario. Il joue un rôle clé dans le succès des producteurs d’aliments, de boissons et de produits agricoles locaux dans l’est de l’Ontario. Selon la présentation, l’RAEO met en œuvre un plan stratégique de trois ans pour définir qui il est, quels sont ses objectifs et ses priorités, et comment il mesurera son succès à l’avenir. L’RAEO travaille également sur un moyen d’atténuer les difficultés de distribution, de lancer une nouvelle marque de produits alimentaires locaux et d’accroître sa présence publique pour promouvoir les producteurs locaux. Les CUPR a une relation de longue date avec l’RAEO, et donc la présentation a été acceptée et sera discutée lors de la pro- chaine réunion régulière.

LES CASTORS ABATTENT LES ROCKETS À DEUX REPRISES

Les Castors de Clarence Creek ont bien entamé leur deuxième semaine dans les séries éliminatoires de la LHJN en battant les Rockets de North Dundas dans les deux premiers matchs de leur série. «Nous allons dans la bonne direction, a déclaré le directeur des Castors, Tim Kosch, ajoutant que l’équipe doit encore éviter la complaisance. Nous n’allons pas être trop confiants. Nous devons prendre les matches les uns après les autres». Il a noté que les Rockets pratiquent un style de jeu similaire à celui des Castors et que les deux équipes étaient presque à égalité en termes d’occasions de but lors de leurs deux premières confrontations. «Nous avons simplement eu plus de chance avec le palet», a-t-il déclaré. Le plus grand défi, selon Kosch, est de faire face au gardien des Rockets, qui a été nommé joueur le plus utile cette saison dans la Ligue de hockey junior de la capitale nationale (LHJCN). «Il fait des arrêts importants quand ils en ont besoin», a déclaré Kosch, ajoutant que les Castors devront essayer de forcer plus de tirs au but contre le filet des Rockets au cours de leurs matchs. Dernier match avec les Lions Les Castors ont conclu leur première série des séries éliminatoires de la LHJN contre les Lions de Morrisburg avec une victoire de 8 à 2 à domicile mercredi soir dernier. Les Castors ont pris une avance de 5-0 en première période et ont ensuite ajouté à ce score avec deux points en deuxième et un dernier but en troisième. Les Castors ont marqué pour Josh Préfon- taine avec deux buts et des passes sur deux autres, et des buts simples pour Nicholas Gaumond, Nikolas Guindon, Cooper Hudson, Jaddus Savoie, et Jacob Servant. Gaumond, Hudson, Tristan Bolduc, Xavier Brunet, Dylan Moloughney, Christophe Quann et Connor Stewart ont également contribué aux buts. Racking up the points against Pembroke on Wednesday, March 8, gave the Nats the energy required to keep a couple of the league’s leading teams to just shootout victories as the final games of the season approach. What would turn out to be a dominant win over the Pembroke Lumber Kings didn’t start out that way. Despite Patrick Lanthier scoring within the first 30 seconds, the Nats finished the first period down 3-1 after Pembroke scored three in the span of just over a minute. But a break between periods was all the Nats needed to collect their thoughts and snap back to form. Tim Cousineau, Yanic Crête, Patrick Lanthier and Kai Stothers would all grace the score board in the second period, giving the away team a two-point lead heading into the final 20 minutes. Crête and Guillaume Labre (empty net) both scored to lock in the Nats win, with the Lumber Kings getting one more of their own to finish the game 7-4 for the Nats. Facing off against the Ottawa Junior Senators, the league’s overall winner, on Friday, March 10, for the second time in six days, the Nats didn’t want a repeat of the 6-2 away loss they suffered on March 4. At first the Nats looked like they could pull it off, keeping the game scoreless in the first followed by a lone powerplay goal from in the second from the Nat’s Tim Cousineau. A second powerplay strike from Cousineau gave the home side a 2-0 lead in the fourth minute of the third period, but the Junior Senators would answer by scoring two of their own in the seventh and 16th minutes. A scoreless overtime meant the Nats were in store for another shootout, but they were unable to pry the win from Ottawa’s gloves, missing both of their first shots. Ottawa scored both of theirs and added another two points to their already impressive tally

The Bell box in front of Martin Lacasse’s house on Valerie Place in Rockland has been bearing the brunt of the municipa- lity’s snow clearing operations, risking cutting off hundreds of residents from phone and internet service. As a corner lot, Lacasse expects a lot of snow to be piled up on his property. For nearly 25 years, he has had no problem with the city’s plowing efforts, as long as they avoid damaging the brown three-foot tall Bell box at the edge of his property. However, for the last few winters plow dri- vers have been pushing the snow up against the box, knocking off its housing despite Lacasse contacting the city on multiple occasions to inform them of the damage. Lacasse even installed bright yellow driveway markers with red flags on the top to alert the drivers. But even those have been run over and damaged. “You would think that somebody who’s driving a truck sitting up high would have enough brains to realize that you can’t push snow on top of the box,” said Lacasse. “This year, they’ve hit the box at least twice and broke one of my poles.” Lacasse spoke with Clarence-Rockland Operations Director Jean-Luc Jubinville and Ward Councillor Kyle Cyr over email in early February, as he feared the neighbourhood could be cut off from internet and phone services and access to 9-1-1. “I’ve got a 92-year-old mother at home here, and if she has a problem when I’m not home, she needs to use the landline for 911 services,” said Lacasse. Jubinville informed him that “due to the complexity of snow removal operations and the size of the snow removal equipment, it will be impossible to prevent the compaction of snow around the Bell box,” and noted the only solution is to have the box relocated. He also informed Lacasse that the city would bring up the issue with Bell but that it would ultimately be the telecom provider’s decision to alter their infrastructure, stating “Bell has no obligations to comply to the City’s request.” Frustration over city’s response Jubinville’s response only irritated Lacasse even more. In the past, it took Bell more than six mon- ths to repair the box, according to Lacasse. Regardless, the Bell box has been in place for more than two decades, said Lacasse, and up until a few winters ago the city had no problem avoiding damage to the box. “The box has been there for 25 years, so why is there all of a sudden a problem now,” asks Lacasse. “It’s one driver who doesn’t seem to understand.” Less than a month after contacting the city, in early March plowing operations did more damage to the box, knocking it off its base at a 45-degree angle. A stop sign at the corner was also damaged around the same time. Lacasse emailed Jubinville once again but has yet to receive a response. “I’ve called the city several times over the last few years to complain ... I’ve never got a phone call back from these guys,”
