Wood-effect tiles is a trend-turned-classic that will stay current for decades to come. Brick-style tiles have been a popular choice for many years with the trend looking set to stick around for a while. #1 It’s all in the layout

When designing your dream bathroom it’s not just about the tiles you select it’s all in the layout. Smaller format tiles, like our V&B Urbantones 10 x 30 range can be laid out in many different styles to create a striking design feature. Top Tip: Larger format tiles like our La Faenza Vis range should be laid out in a simple, horizontal grid pattern or stack bond design. This helps to make small rooms feel bigger and creates a sleek effect with fewer grout lines and reduces the need for trimming lots of tiles, saving you time and money. Check out our handy tile pattern layout suggestions for added inspiration.

#2 Small Space, Big Effect

Don’t be afraid to use dark colours in smaller spaces. Of course lighter colours make a room feel bigger and brighter, but that doesn’t mean you should shy away from using darker colours in smaller spaces. A dark tile can add a sense of depth to a room as the parameters of the tile become less clear and, much like a lighter tile, can make a space feel bigger. Top Tip: Tile size shouldn’t be determined by bathroom size. A small bathroom can actually benefit from a large tile, with fewer grout lines the walls and floor appear less cluttered and the room visually expanded.

#3 The best in test

Wetrooms are beautiful, luxurious and practical. However due to the nature of this type of environment it is always wise to select a tile for your wet room with the appropriate slip resistance for your layout. That is why we have identified the “R” and “PTV” ratings for each range. The “R” rating system indicates that the tile has a slip resistant finish. The higher the rating, the greater the level of slip resistance. The “PTV” (Pendulum Test Value) rating is designed

to indicate the level of slip resistance a tile range provides when they are wet or dry. The higher the rating, the greater the slip resistance. Please note, R ratings and PTV ratings are only assigned to tiles that are designed to provide a level of grip and slip resistance. Top Tip: Look out for our slip resistance icon to identify the ‘R’ and ‘PTV’ ratings.

#4 The Grout Effect

Complementary or contrasting, the grout colour you select will affect the final look of your tiles. We love how the dark grey grout in this image makes the V&B white tiles “pop”, creating a contrasting design look that will WOW your friends. For an interior design that stands the test of time, selecting complementing grout colours when choosing stone effect tiles in the bathroom is a great choice. The beautiful Vis Almond tiles, work very well with the Rocatex beige grout, making the grout lines virtually disappear.

Top Tip: A darker grout colour can hide stains and dirt, particularly good for floors.

#5 Colour is the new grey Whilst grey tones are still the #1 colour choice for the bathroom, we are starting to see the use of different colours in the bathroom as they help to evoke a certain mood or feel. From the rich, dark tones of the La Faenza Trex range to the pastel pink and blue shades of the V&B Soft Colours range, exploring different colour palettes can help to add a new dimension to a bathroom. #6 Preparation is key

Important tips for tiling your bathroom

• MEASURE THE SPACE ACCURATELY

You will need to calculate the square metre area that you are tiling– the easiest way to do this is with our simple-to-use calculator found on our website: www.abacus-bathrooms.co.uk When calculating the space it is important to make sure you add at least 10% extra for waste and cuts. You don’t want to be half way through a project and run out.

• SELECT YOUR PERFECT TILES

Our products are grouped by style, making it easy for you to find the perfect option for your project, from stunning marble finishes to contemporary concrete effect. There really is a style to suit your space.

• THINK ABOUT YOUR SPACE

When selecting a tile range, make sure it is suitable for your space. Is the tile suitable for both wall and floor use? Does it have a slip resistance that makes it suitable for wetrooms? Look out for our features icons on each of our tile ranges to help you with selecting the right tiles for your project.

• DECIDE ON YOUR LAYOUT

Before you start your tiling project, consider how you would like your tiles to be laid out. Use our handy “Suggested Tile Patterns” guide on page 14 for a little inspiration.
