Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report

Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments

Tennessee Valley Authority

To Whom It May Concern: This email serves as noticed that “we” the community are opposed to the TVA site in Ashland City, Tennessee. Concerns:

(1) The drinking water that supplies hundreds of homes and provides water to thousands of Cheatham County residents comes from the creek that is directly below you site. This water is pumped across the county from the treatment plant on Floyd Hudgens Rd. We are are worried about leaking natural gas lines, contamination coming from storage of lithium batteries etc. Historically the TVA has these issues in the past. Undoubtedly your self reporting shows minimal compared to actual percentages found from testing. (2.) Noise, I mean who wants to listen to the gas turbines? No one I know of. This creates a public nuisance. You claim to be “allowed” so many decibels from the property lines. I can assure you I can hear the traffic passing on the highway at night which is further than these turbines will be. Don’t forget about the fumes from burning all that gas. Who wants to inhale that all the time. Are TVA workers required to wear special mask when around the fumes? If so how will that affect me and my family,? (3.) Traffic, Our small country roads cannot handle large amounts of traffic. As you have already noticed some places are barley wide enough for school buses. Our bridges to and from the location “crossing the same creek we drink from” are not designed for the weight of large machinery. It will be questionable whether or not you can get approval from TDOT to cross them. Lockersville road which is a point of travel to this proposed facility on average flash floods 2-3 times per year. Historically this road has been on the local news for 40yrs because of the flooding. (4.) Cheatham County High School, Your facility will be within 1000ft of a high school. Which brings into question “if” there’s an explosion, you’ve now put hundreds of children’s lives in danger. Why create a dangerous environment so close to a school? (5.) Fire, our local fire department has already expressed their concerns that they are not equipped to handle large fires from lithium batteries. Again, why create an hazardous environment that could pose significant risk to first responders? (6.) Property Value, we all know that when TVA comes to “town” our property values decrease. Who’s gonna supplement the value of my home when it decreases? (7.) Speaking of property, now I’ll be subject to higher home owners insurance due to this gas line coming through my property or right next to it. Property, the TVA just takes your property? Something I worked and built and it made my own? You’re just gonna take it? Doesn’t seem right does it? Side note, why was your meeting so hush, hush? The public wasn’t really informed about the “public notice” meeting until the last minute. We don’t like shady shenanigans. If you really wanted the public to know, you could’ve posted large signs by the roadway, up and down the roadway. We all travel that road everyday. What about Social Media?? That’s all for now, thanks for your time.
