Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report

Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments

Tennessee Valley Authority

Sir/Madam. I am a resident of Cheatham County with deep roots entwined on my family’s State registered Century Farm located less than a half mile from TVA’s proposed Natural Gas Plant and Battery Storage System. Your proposed site was once a part of our historical farm. Prior to my ancestor's ownership, this site was deeded to Mr. Ganier as a land grant from the US military as pay for his services during the American Revolutionary War. Needless to say, I am extremely concerned about the potential negative impacts of this development to our water quality; our soil quality; our air quality; our property values; and our silence and solitude – my family’s, our neighbor’s, this land’s, and our beloved farm’s overall health and wellbeing. While I do understand the importance of this project, I strongly oppose it being constructed amongst our historic farmland and growing community. Knowing our County through generational eyes, I’m confident you can find better suited sites throughout this area. Several of which have small-scale versions of the infrastructure that will be required for such a project. As examples: Cheatham County’s Industrial Park is located approximately 10 miles from this proposed site and sits alongside Highway 12 South – a mere 20 miles from your targeted service users in the Nashville area. An existing natural gas pipeline runs through this industrial area; a sizeable substation and more suitable power lines are adjacent. This same pipeline crosses the Cumberland River and emerges along Hwy 251 (River Road). There is currently a piece of commercial property on the market within less than 1/10 of a mile from the existing pipeline; a substation and larger power lines nearby. The Cheatham Wildlife Management Area - 20,000+ acres located on the south side of the county – is crisscrossed with both natural gas pipelines and major electrical transmission lines. One corner of the property is located less than 20 miles from Nashville. All three of these properties sit along state highways designed for heavy loadbearing hauls – such as needed during construction, unlike the proposed site sitting amongst.

I saw on Facebook that the TVA may be adding a natural gas fueled generator in Cheetam county. While I’m thrilled that you are planning to retire the coal generators in our state, I would prefer that you consider more renewable energy sources. I live just north of Cheetam county in Montgomery county, so I have concerns about what this new generator would mean. Natural gas is better than coal, but it’s still a fossil fuel and adds to global warming. I was pleased to see that your plans include 13 acres (I think that’s correct) for pollinator habitat. I believe the TVA is doing about as much as it can to preserve our environment, but I hope your organization does even more in the future. Thanks for taking my comments neutral Paula Boley

To whom it may concern,My name is Paul Binford. We have a farm on Mosley Ferry Rd , Cheatham County ,where we have raised our children and now our Grandkids are enjoying living on our farm. We enjoy our rural country living. I am concern about the impact of a proposed NG plant that TVA is wanting to place on Lockersville Rd. I know TVA is wanting to build natural gas processing plants to replace coal fire plants. These plants may have a life on the order of 40 plus years. Emissions are better than coal but still emit small particles (Pm 2.5) that are tied to asthma, other health effects, and premature death in extreme situations. TVA burning natural gas for another 40 plus years also doesn't help our grandkids with impacts from climate change. I would support the battery farm but not natural gas. Research from Harvard has shown very bad effects of Pm 2.5. See research Paper: https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/c-change/news/fossil-fuel-air-pollution-responsible-for-1-in-5-deaths-worldwide. I would think our county and TVA would be concern about the Pm 2.5 particles that will be in our air.

I would like to see some alternative solutions. We do not want to hurt our environment. I would think our county and TVA would do an impact study of what this will do to our environment and our economics of Cheatham County.

Cheatham Generation Site I would like to voice my complaint against this site. My grandparents, parents and I have lived in this country community for most of our lives. It is a nice, quiet place to live and raise families, and I would like for it to remain that way. I'm sure there are other less populated places where this plant could be built. We don't want the noise, air, or water pollution. Please rethink this site negative Gloria Williams
