Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report
Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments
Tennessee Valley Authority
I am opposed to the proposed TVA methane gas plant and pipeline in Cheatham county. At this point, TVA should no longer be building brand new fossil fuel plants. A new methane gas plant and pipeline are environmentally disruptive, polluting, and will continue a reliance on fossil fuels. TVA needs to expand the scope of the study to include assessment of the potential for other energy source alternatives such as solar and wind power. Solar and wind power are reasonable alternatives that are not addressed by an "action versus no action" assessment. Plus, TVA should widen the scope of the study to a larger geographic area. It's clear to me that TVA's preferred alternative is the site off Lockertsville Road that they purchased a few years ago. Any steps that TVA has already taken to advance this preferred alternative such as precedent agreements with pipeline companies should be clearly disclosed to the public. I don't want TVA pushing to build more fossil fuel projects. To meet our energy needs, TVA needs to be building operations that use renewable energy sources. I don't want TVA saddling our beautiful Cheatham County with a polluting, fossil-fuel using methane gas plant and pipeline that will do more harm than good for this county. TVA needs to be a leader in producing energy with renewable sources, not fossil fuel. TVA should start by putting this methane plant and pipeline on hold and SERIOUSLY study other alternatives, not just put out a performative assessment that we can't trust will be conducted in good faith negative Zada Law 37015

Cheatham County Generation Site_#50 I am opposed to the building of a TVA plant (of any kind) or pipeline in Cheatham County. Please do not build here--this is not only a giant leap backwards when it comes to halting and reversing climate change, but it would be a terrible detriment to public health as well as the environment. negative Yasmine Ali 37015

Fossil fuels are a dead end. We need to stop depending on this source for energy and be progressive in this state. Climate change is real!
I live on almost 7 acres just YARDS from the proposed methane gas plant on Lockertville Rd. At the age of 62, I have spent a lifetime of hard work creating the life that I grew up in -- away from the noise and construction of city life. My farm neighbors have been hear for decades, centuries! In the blink of an eye, TVA proposes to destroy everything we hold dear in Cheatham County: history, farmland, wildlife, the Sycamore Creek and the value and ownership of our property. I have tried for three years to get information from TVA about any project that would be proposed for the property on Lockertsville, but nobody would even respond. We had to find out at the last minute -- through a third party -- about the TVA "NEPA" event on June 21, 2023, which was nothing more than a misleading dog-and-pony show. *Your PR team was woefully unprepared to answer 99% of the questions posed by hundreds of residents concerning the construction and use of a methane gas pipeline and plant in our county, and in too many cases we were told outright lies. *The one map provided was pitiful. A 4th-grader could have done better. One area was totally mislabeled. The map had NO street names, so we were not able to determine exactly where the proposed pipeline would run, and that was probably intentional. The inset that showed the pipeline map measured only inches. The large map was just a blob of color where the TVA property is located with some lines for streets. Lockerstville Rd. was labelled, but not much of anything else. *When asked about the construction of the plant, as we are all concerned about large machinery being moved on our narrow, rural roads, a TVA representative told us that a “transportation company had already been contracted.” Wow. Really? “Contracted” prior to an initial public meeting? *One representative told me, and a gentleman standing beside me, that this facility would provide electricity to the surrounding areas. What he didn’t know was that a CEMC employee was standing right next to me, and he told me that CEMC is in the dark on everything about this project. *One representative had the nerve to tell us, “TVA informed all of the surrounding neighbors about the meeting.” I live yards from this property, I know all of my neighbors, and we received ZERO information prior to the meeting! The only reason anyone knew was that Appalachian Voices posted information that someone saw, and TVA placed some flyers at the local Cash Saver. The head of TVA makes $10 million per year, but the agency could not spend less than $100 to mail those of us around this property information about the meeting. *Hard-core safety information was not provided concerning fires, battery storage, noise, traffic, etc., and in fact, we were told that "fires would never happen." (Do you really think Americans are that stupid?) *Did you confer with local water, fire and police departments about this proposed pipeline and plant? We're hearing that TVA did not. These are the people who will be on the front lines when things do go wrong, yet they knew nothing. *I did not speak to one TVA representative who had actually seen the proposed site or visited our beautiful countryside. *The fact that this plant may only be in existence for 22 years makes the disruption and destruction even MORE ludicrous! If we can’t trust TVA with the small stuff, how can we trust you with a methane gas plant and pipeline in our pristine, agricultural county? We're not buying it, and we will fight it with every fiber of our beings. We are showing up in numbers. We are contacting the media, local and national. We are working with groups to instigate lawsuits. We are meeting with our congressional representatives. We will be demanding an investigation into TVA practices. By your own lack of common courtesy; lies by omission; underhanded and fraudulent misrepresentation of your agency to this county, you have given your project a bad name before you have begun. You are using our tax dollars to destroy our lives, our property values and our safety. For these reasons alone, the TVA should be banned from our county. Just because the TVA is a federal agency, you have no right to bully Americans out of everything they've worked for in their lifetimes just because you say you can. WE, the People, should have the final say on how our tax dollars are used, and not a federal agency that is frantically spending billions of our tax dollars on power solutions in the wrong places because they are mandated by the current administration to shut down coal plants with any of you NOT have compassion or sense of logic in this case? The irony is that the first photo, which I took of early morning fog on Lockertsville Rd., was recently used as the cover of a recent CEMC monthly magazine. WE WANT THE TVA OUT!! Go to industrial areas with your projects. You DO NOT NEED TO BE IN CHEATHAM COUNTY negative Nanette Malher 37015 My home is on Lockertsville Road and I’m concerned about the possible air, ground, water and auditory pollutants of the gas plant. I know what the turbines do to the ground of the surrounding areas. The runoff of the pollutants will put toxins in Sycamore Creek where our water comes from. Otherwise I’d like to know how you’d keep them out of the creek. If there is a methane gas leak how do you keep it from poisoning the community. If the pipeline runs through some of our yards, will you guarantee no leak to our gardens or wells? And how do you make that guarantee negative Diane Singleton 37015 It is outrageous that TVA has planned such a huge and invasive project in Cheatham County for the benefit of Nashville. In addition, TVA has hijacked pristine land in the county for what will become a huge eyesore offering zero benefit to this county. TVA has not informed any of our utility, law enforcement, fire, or emergency departments of such a project that will directly affect water consumption by county residents and potential hazardous conditions. What is most shocking is that TVA bamboozled this county by not advertising anywhere other than their website, which by the way, is not something any resident in Cheatham County would go to for any reason, that is unless, something like this occurs. No information, no talk, no honesty, etc... I could go on. We do not need our water source, Sycamore Creek, to be polluted with any residue from such a gas plant cycling water from it to do whatever. TVA has been so underhanded in your dealings with this project and lying by omission, the TVA should be investigated immediately by the State and the Congress negative Debbie Keenan 37015
