Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report

Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments

Tennessee Valley Authority

I live Ashland City, TN and your proposed Generation Site is basically in my backyard. Without a doubt gases and sounds from this plant will be heard from my house. I have grown up in this county and my family has been either in Cheatham or Nashville since at least the early 1800's. I ask that you please consider moving your site or changing your plans. All of us in the area you are building do not want this site to

be built. We don't appreciate that you're planting it in the middle of our neighborhood. Personally I'm concerned with what this plant will expose us to. Gases from the plant, water pollution, acres of batteries, and even the potential nuclear cells/plant on down the road. What

happens if the batteries catch fire? That will always be a possibility. What are the gases produced from this going to do to our crops? That is still a way of life for many in the area of where you are wanting to put this plant. We also don't appreciate that you haven't been very forthcoming on this matter. Please consider for yourself would you want to live next to something like this. Would you want your family and future generations to live so close to this. I know you would say that the dangers of this plant are low but what if something happens to the plant itself. We are talking about gases. This thing is so close to so many people, homes, and land. I get it, it's Cheatham County, TN. It's a small town and we don't have a lot going for us. There's a lot of things I'd like to see this town do to improve it's culture but planting a generation site isn't going to help. I don't want to live next to a place such as this. I can't see myself living a town with this. Especially if it becomes nuclear in 20-25 years. I definitely don't want to live next to that. That would then lead to a lot more concern with many more questions about safety of that. With all respect I ask that you please kindly consider all of the angles of this and hear the people of Cheatham and especially those that live in this area that this is not a good place for your site. I ask that you please consider a different place that is not in the backyard of so many people. If you must place it in Cheatham County then please do it at a place that doesn't have the impact this site will.

To whom it may concern, The new TVA site planned to be built in Cheatham county, Tennessee will cause significant issues for our area and it needs to be stopped and the plant relocated closer to Nashville, it's intended target. The site identified by TVA is located next to Sycamore creek and is the same water source used to supply Ashland City and Pleasant View with safe drinking water via Pleasant View Utility District. The potential for pollutants and contamination from gas lines leaching into our drinking water supply is too great to ignore. Our beautiful, rural area draws many seeking outdoor solace and this creek is frequented by locals and out-of-towners alike for kayaking, fishing, canoeing, and swimming for its tranquility. This plant will ruin our actively used creek. Surrounding this potential build site and planned pipeline is presine crop lands utilized by longtime farmers, some family farms that have been here for centuries! This plant will only damage the area with its noise, heat, waste, and the potential for hazardous material runoffs. Because of the close proximity to current farms and residences, this plant will depreciate our property values down so low that we, especially farmers who are already struggling to make ends meet, will never recover financially. Wildlife will also be affected greatly by the industrialization of this area. This specific plot of land hosts and houses a multitude of species, including: deer, turkeys, bobcats, coyotes, bald eagles, monarch butterflies, and many, many more. The overall devastation to our surrounding crop and pasture lands, our animals, and us people will be catastrophic to this rural community. This plant is bad for the environment and for our community and needs to be relocated to an industrial area, not plopped down in the middle of rural America. I urge you to find another already developed location where it will be better suited and in closer proximity to its intended users. negative Chrissy Suell 37015

Cheatham County Generation Site_#209 I am concerned that this kind of turbine is powered by fossil fuels and emits significant greenhouse gases, raising the temperature of the Earth, causes flooding, forest fires, and pollution hazardous to Life.Thank you for this community forum. I respect many of the projects TVA builds. My prayer is that we become a people that can live more simply, so others may simply live, including being good stewards of plants and animals. negative Linda Bush

To whom it may concern I am a native born and raised long term resident of middle Tennessee. Even though I don’t live in the area to be impacted I am outraged by the treatment folks there are receiving regarding the Cheatham Methane Generation project. I do strongly oppose this project and do heartily agree with the assessment of it in the recent article by Appalachian Voices . This is again another sellout of the people and environment of this region primarily to enrich power company owners and stockholders. Both the obtaining gas by fracking and the construction project proposed are monumentally destructive to our environment and the population affected. You the public administration officials and corrupt politicians greasing the way should have to live in the project neighborhood and witness firsthand the quality of your life rapidly diminish . There has got to be a better way to find a way to clean power to counteract a global catastrophe in the making by ignoring Mother Nature’s warning signs and proceeding only on the basis of what’s the most massive profit for an elite few increasingly out of touch with their fellow citizens and how they live day to day . negative John Michael Holt

Good afternoon. The proposed Methane Plant in Cheatham County is being fast tracked without transparency or enough research to determine both fiscal and environmental impact in our area. I live on Harristown Road in Ashland City near the intersection of Harristown and Lockertsville Roads; part of the proposed site area. I have not been contacted in anyway regarding this proposal, although TVA reps continue to say they have done so. Both of these toads flood regularly, all year long. We cannot minimize the impact of this plant. Methane fired energy plants, and pipelines are scientifically well documented short term toxic and dangerous bandaids for future energy needs. These plants leave a hard core, scorched earth foot print; similar in damage but in differential ways as outdated coal fired plants do. This TVA project is being fast tracked, and pushed without transparency to citizen stakeholders. Without transparency to County and City governments. In addition, we have no information regarding the impact of this plant's noise and light levels on wildlife, water, plants or humans. This will impact migratory life as well. In April 2023, the TVA Green Invest Program brought online, the Vanderbilt solar energy farm, in partnership with Nashville's Silicon Ranch Company and the Bedford County Solar Farm. This took 3 years. Yes, it's small. But many types of renewable energy projects can be decentralized OR scalable. TVA has the technology to move forward with transparency, and with the least amount of environmental impact possible. TVA also has the ability to become the largest partner with smaller rural energy co-ops and entities, thus creating many needed jobs and careers. Let's think outside the "big box cookie cutter" model. Let's grow well and build well
