Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report
Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments
Tennessee Valley Authority
I am a 21 year resident/property owner in Ashland City/Cheatham County, Tennessee. The proposed Methane Plant in Cheatham County is being fast tracked without transparency or enough research to determine both fiscal and environmental impact in our area. I am not against change. Nor am I against recognizing the growing need for power sources. I attended the TVA Open House on June 21, 2023 in our county meeting room. It was labeled as "Cheatham County Generation Site Environmental Impact Statement," however, we were not given any impact statement, nor was there a presentation or question bd answer forum. In speaking with two TVA employees there, I was told "TVA has gone door to door." I have not been contacted in anyway. As such, I asked 4 other citizens at the meeting to join these discussions. NONE had been contacted. Methane fired energy plants, and pipelines are scientifically well documented short term toxic and dangerous bandaids for future energy needs. These plants leave a hard core, scorched earth foot print; similar in damage but in differential ways as outdated coal fired plants do. As a long term resident, and property owner in Cheatham County, I have observed and delighted in our nesting Bald Eagles all along the proposed site, for years. We are on Harristown Road. We have 3 springs on our property and a natural stream. We are nearly AT the intersection of Lockertsville and Harristown Roads. This intersection and Both roads flod regularly all year long with the banks of the Sycamore making the roads impassable. THIS is in the area of the proposed pipeline. The impact simply cannot be minimized. Our citizens are well aware of the 1992 gas pipeline explosion in Dickson County. We have observed the destruction first hand. We have worked together, long and hard, to stop future riskt projects of this type in the area. This TVA project is being fast tracked, and pushed without transparency to citizen stakeholders. Without transparency to County and City governments. In addition, we have no information regarding the impact of this plant's noise and light levels on wildlife, water, plants or humans. This will impact migratory life as well. TVA is the largest energy provider in the country. We look to you for innovative and responsible energy solutions. Infact, much of our country looks for leadership from TVA. In April 2023, the TVA Green Invest Program brought online, the Vanderbilt solar energy farm, in partnership with Nashville's Silicon Ranch Company and the Bedford County Solar Farm. This took 3 years. Yes, it's small. But many types of renewable energy projects can be decentralized OR scalable. TVA has the technology to move forward with transparency, and with the least amount of environmental impact possible. TVA also has the ability to become the largest partner with smaller rural energy co-ops and entities, thus creating many needed jobs and careers. Let's think outside the "big box cookie cutter" mentality. Let's grow well and build well. I'm a third generation property owner on Lockertsville Rd. I've seen a lot of changes in my community in my 53 years. This proposed site of TVA will be devastating to our community, ecosystem, watersheds, native plant species, and wildlife. My concerns are many due to the fact I live within a mile of the proposed location. Due to the safety concerns and environmental impact, my Children and Grandchildren will not have the same benefits of living in this community. We don't want the danger's associated with this plant in our Community! I must start this comment with the following. Recent weather reports show that Earth just experienced its hottest day temperatures ever recorded for three days in a row. Science shows our fossil fuel use is altering our atmosphere and extreme weather of climate change is underway in real time. We currently are witness to this. I am aware of the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change reports. I know the last two reports have adjusted the time estimates of beyond the ability to manage chance we humans have. We are wasting time and must become carbon neutral ASAP. I know… * TVA and the Federal Government have established goals to become net zero-carbon by 2050 and 2035. * The resent Inflation Reduction Act from the Biden Administration will help us move towards netzero. * The USA has joined over 190 other nations and signed the Paris Climate Agreement. This world agreement addresses temperature control and aims to strengthen countries' ability to deal with the impacts of climate change and support them in their efforts. * Over 40Trillion dollars have been divested out of fossil fuel. * Nashville TN has established net-zero carbon goals. * Tennessee has several successful solar businesses established. * There are several health concerns tied to carbon use and air and water quality. * The grid needs to be improved. We waste a huge amount of energy from power site to customers. Its my understanding the solar and wind generated sites in TVA grid faired well in last December artic blast, and some of the fossil fuel sites faltered. I understand TVA has begun to take steps to lower its fossil fuel use by closing some of its coal generated sites. And I thank you for that. My family has been a TVA customer since 1963. I know we and thousands of other family’s in the TVA grid want TVA to provide us with clean sustainable energy. I do not agree that methane/natural gas is the way to go when replacing these retired power plants. It is a waste of time, and does not help TVA reach the needed goals it has set. My family is aware you are considering placing a Methane Combustion Turbine Site and a Battery Energy Storage System on land you have purchased in Cheatham Co. We are concerned with the recent TVA gas buildouts that remain underway. It is a waste of time we do not have. I also understand TVA has the 3 E's as a guide. Energy, Environment, and Economy. I urge you to completely turn to safe sustainable Energy ASAP. Other wise you have failed to advance in time. TVA has already failed Environment by holding onto fossil fuels for so long. And the Economy of all of us will struggle with each extreme weather event and loss of land due to sea rise. We urge TVA to use this land in a carbon neutral way. We ask you to explore all viable options in this rural farmland setting. Solar wind and battery storage would be acceptable on that land. Fossil fuel fired generation is not acceptable,

I disagree with the proposed power plant running through sycamore creek. Affecting too many families and damaging the ecosystems our families have been trying to protect for hundreds of years

Dear Sir or Madam, I am deeply concerned about the negative impact that theproposed TVA gas plant and lithium battery storage site will have on my comunity. This development will harm Cheatham County lands, citizens, and wildlife. Please do not move forward with this project

A methane gas plant and pipeline are polluting, dangerous, and costly compared to alternatives like energy efficiency, solar, and wind power. Please protect our earth for my kids and grandkids
