Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report
Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments
Tennessee Valley Authority
In my career as an IT engineer and department Director for a large Fortune 500 company, I’ve learned to approach any problem with an unemotional and rational response. I still have my concerns and feel strongly about this project and its location. I also want those concerned that I understand the need for such a plant and the difficulty to locate one anywhere within our county. No one wants it in their backyard. In my case, the plant will be literally a ¼ mile away. The proposed site is located on the southernmost location within the original 640-acre Revolutionary War land grant purchased by my ancestors and settled in 1815. Over the years the land owned by my family has changed but myself and my Maternal aunt still own the last 100 acres. So, someone in my family has continuously owned a portion of that original land grant for 208 years. It matters to me what happens here regardless of the outcome. My concerns for this project are numerous but my expertise is not in environmental science. But I will enumerate my concerns in this section. •I would like to understand the level of noise created by such a plan. I understand it could average about 85 db with a high of about 139 db. But at what distance. It is very quiet and peaceful here, So I don’t want that to change. •Property values are a real concern to several of us since our homes are our largest investment and a hedge against inflation in our retirement. •Of course, the effects on the water and air in the area is a major concern as well. This would be a concern wherever the plant is constructed. •The area where this project is targeted may seem to be a open agriculture area but in reality this site is surrounded by a large residential community with large lots. There are a few small farms (like ours) but the majority of our neighbors live on 5-10 acre home lots. The proposed area is basically like building the plant in the middle of a suburban subdivision.

I am NOT in favor of the gas turbine plant proposed in cheatham county!! Do not consider destroying our lovely pristine environment!
To whom it may concern, I am a Century farm owner and resident, and I work on my own farm located on Lockertsville Rd in Cheatham county, within 1/2 mile of the TVA's proposed project site on that road. My concerns are for contamination of any kind- soil, air or noise, and for any probable effect on property values in the area. There is an abundance of vacant land located between Cheatham County and Davidson County. Any of that property would be much closer to the North Nashville area, and to the facilities which will be needed in the construction phase of the project. Also, our roads and bridges are not capable of supporting the weight of the equipment needed to complete the project. Please consider other options thoroughly before making a final decision on this location. negative Glenda Batts 37015 I am strongly opposed to replacing one fossil-fueled generator (coal, Cumberland City Steam Plant) with another (methane-powered, proposed Cheatham County plant). Methane generation is NOT "green". When the property for this site was purchased 2 years ago, it was implied in the local newspaper that this plant would be solar or wind powered; please do THIS instead of running more pipe lines and increasing emissions contributing to climate change. Construction of this facility will be very detrimental to this community as it is, considering the farms around it and the narrow country roads that school buses and teenage drivers will be sharing with large earth-moving equipment. I understand that gas-powered plants are noisy, as well. I am also very concerned about possible pollution of Sycamore Creek and Spring Creek negative Rebecca Poteete 37035

We reside at 2422 Lockertsville Road, which is approximately 3/4 mile from the TVA property in Cheatham County. We are writing to request a No Action Alternative for this property. We have lived in this community as a married couple for 36 years. Derek lived in his family home at 2307 Lockertsville Road from 1965 until 1987. His family home is 130 years old and sets on land that was issued to his ancestors in a land grant after the Revolutionary War. The land has continuously been farmed for over 125 years. The TVA property is actually part of that original land grant. The Lockertsville community has always been a very peaceful and quiet farming community. We are most concerned about the disruption of life as we have always known it. We are worried about the effect it will have on our property value and our quality of life. In addition, we are fearful of the impact that a simple cycle Combustion Turbine Plant paired with a Battery Energy Storage System would have on our environment. This area has a high population of deer, turkeys, and birds. Eagles have frequently been spotted on and very near the TVA property and it is highly likely that there could be nests either on or near the property. The noise and vibration from the plant would disrupt not only our peace but interfere with the wildlife. While we realize that there is a need to find better resources to provide needed energy for the increased load that TVA and CEMC are experiencing, we just don't believe this would be the best property for TVA to build the plant. It was first proposed that this would be the site for a substation. We would rather have a substation as it has less impact on rural communities. Gena's father worked for CEMC for over 30 years as a lineman, so we are very familiar with the low risk of having one near us. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to attend the information session on June 21 and allowing us to be heard. We hope there will be future opportunities to ask more questions and give our input. I think you will find that our above statements are valid and you will see that when the environmental study is conducted. Should you wish to speak directly to us about this, we welcome your email or call.
