Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report
Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments
Tennessee Valley Authority
I am writing to ask you to reconsider placing a methane facility in Cheatham county. Here are a few reasons. First, Cheatham county is the last county touching Davidson to have any significant growth. Placing a methane facility will only slow the growth down further due to the "not in my backyard effect". I read that the methane facility will be about 60% cleaner than the coal plant at Cumberland City but that is little comfort considering that the Cumberland Fossil Plant was the number 3 polluter in the nation (https://clarksvillenow.com/local/tva-will replace-coal-fired-cumberland-fossil-plant-with-gas-fueled-turbine- environmental-groups object/#:~:text=About%20the%20steam%20plant&text=In%202016%2C%20the%20Cumberland%20Fossil,to%20The%20Leaf%2DChronicle%20archives.) Second on the topic of pollution, there is the Sycamore Creek running through the area which is popular for fishing and canoeing, the Cheatham County High School about 1.25 miles away, and the Cheatham Middle School about 2 miles away, as well as numerous houses and farmland. All will be within the winds from a methane plant meaning all pollution will affect those people leading to increased health problems which will not only reflect poorly on the TVA but also will lead to law suits in the future. Third thing to consider is the traffic on Highway 12 that commutes to and from Clarksville. All will be passing through the winds from the plant. This is concerning given the plumes that can be seen in Clarksville from the Cumberland City plant. Those plumes hang in the sky for miles in the right conditions. Cheatham County get very foggy on most nights from the moist air and the river. Adding to that can only lead to increased traffic problems along that route and other roads in the area. I offer a better solution all around which is to place a solar and/or wind facility at the location. I realize that the power generated will not be as much as the methane facility but it will have the rewards of a more positive image for the TVA, be more environmentally friendly, and that will have better outcomes in the long run for the TVA and the people of middle Tennessee. The TVA could use this as an opportunity to build a model facility to sell installing others in middle Tennessee which would make the overall power grid stronger by spreading the power sources out and make it more sustainable with fewer environmental and health problems in the future. Thank you for considering my ideas negative Anthony Roberson 37035

I as much as anyone in our state understand the need for the growing middle Tennessee power needs. I don’t blame people for wanting to come to this beautiful state. Keeping that in mind, I can’t understand a large gas plant in the middle of this rural setting. One of the last left around nashville as it grows. Also taking peoples farms and landscapes for a pipeline. Now that these conversations are started, I realize faster and faster that no one is opposed to more power coming from the Cheatham dam, already producing power. On a section of river that people This plant will be across the hill from me. Me and my family are scared, and upset, that we have moved away from the city to escape these same problems, and they come knocking on our back door. I beg and urge the TVA to reconsider the location. Our little small town, that we love dearly, doesn’t think it will survive without it’s #1 asset, it’s Beaty and safety.

are already aware for over 50 years that that is what that is there to do. There’s infrastructure there, and it’s a source of power that isn’t being threatened to be obsolete. I also know the draw backs of solar and the amount of space needed to provide solar power at the level of a gas plant. In the same breath, it feels like in our current climate, the TVA would be super heroes if they figured out a way to make that work.
This is an absolute outrage and devastating to our community. We are praying that this plant will not go in anywhere near our county or anyone else's for that matter. Keep this thousands of miles away from where people live and the protected water we drink from. No amount of money, jobs or power generated from this site will help or add any value to our already thriving community and the families who live hear. Thank you for your time

I am concerned about the following endangered/protected/critical species and habitats within and around the proposed project boundaries: Northern Long Eared Bat; Indiana Bat; Gray Bat; Shorts Bladderpod; Bald Eagle; Riverines; Wetlands. There are numerous wells surrounding the property I am worried about along with the main drinking water intake for the City of Pleasant View located on the southern border of the property. I live 2 miles from the property. My family along with relatives and friends are beekeepers with numerous honey bee hives, I am worried about the affects on the honey bee populations. My daughter has a rare medical disorder and cannot be exposed to air/water pollution which has not been a major concern as of yet since we live in a rural area. I don't understand why you are replacing fossil fuels (coal) with more fossil fuels (methane) which are actually more immediately potent towards global warming regarding heat capture, especially for a "temporary" facility. My family's main sources of food are from farming, hunting and fishing and you want to destroy land and natural resources. I am a Senior Environmental Scientist by profession and have spent much of my career doing work for Coal Burning Power Plants including several TVA facilities. I am an outdoorsman and a farmer and I genuinely care about the environment. I am tired of government/big business using the "climate change" fear mongering to destroy more natural resources and harm the environment all under the mask of "global warming" negative Keith Kirk 37035 This pipeline is a disaster waiting to happen. We do not need this infrastructure to exist at the expense of nature. The conditions of our natural environment deserve respect and the government doesn’t seem to understand that. Everything is about making money and capitalizing on wealth. This pipeline should not happen and I’m sure there are thousands and thousands of Tennesseans who would argue the same thing. NO MORE DESTRUCTION of nature. Please, we beg of you to preserve this beautiful land. negative Chloe

The new TVA site planned to be built in Cheatham county, Tennessee will cause significant issues for our area and it needs to be stopped. The planned build site is located next to Sycamore creek, which is the same creek used by Pleasant View Utility District (PVUD) for the local water supply in Ashland City AND Pleasant View. The potential for pollutants and contamination from gas lines leaching into our drinking water supply is too great to ignore. This creek is frequented by locals and out-oftowners alike for kayaking, fishing, canoeing, and swimming for its tranquility. This plant will ruin our actively used creek.
This will take up so much presine crop land from a farmer that needs it for income as well as take away land from other local farmers and neighbors for the gas line to run through. Because of the close proximity to current farms and residences, this plant will depreciate our property values down to the point where it will be hard to ever recover. The overall devastation to our surrounding crop and pasture lands, our animals, and us people will be catastrophic to this rural community. This plant is bad for the environment and for our community. Find another location where it will not affect anyone.
