Cheatham County Generation Site EIS Scoping Report

Appendix C Summary of Scoping Comments

Tennessee Valley Authority

What will be the estimated costs of greenhouse gas mitigation measures required to bring the plant into compliance with federal orders/EPA guidelines that call for carbon pollution free energy grid by 2030? 2035? Natural gas is toxic, flammable, non-renewable, pollutes water and earth, causes greenhouse gas emissions, and is expensive to store and transport; Is there an alternative build for renewable energy that would not require mitigation? What is the average radius of gas leaks of similar equipment? How often do gas leaks occur on your already existing equipment? Can we assume it will be similar to builds in Cheatham county? Water sources are within how many miles of this site? What steps are planned to save the waterways from the inevitable leaking? Can we request community engagement persons to actually communicate with people in the area and answer questions and follow through with updating the public on matters involving this site? At the scoping, it was not a public forum, it was TVA workers explaining their goals, and that doesn’t seem fair; I would hope there would be input received from the community in a public forum; can we request an actual public forum discussion? Will leaks beaddressed immediately? How can we ensure this? How would leaks affect local groundwater? Will you provide emission, noise, pollution, and traffic control? How so? What safety protocols are in place for residents if a fire occurs within the gas plant and batteries? Should additional insurance be recommended for these residents homes? Is this something that people can even prepare for. negative Rachel Schroeder 37015 I am against the proposed development in Ashland City as it is currently being proposed - the details frighten me regarding safety for the area and its residents - the amount of diesel fuel that will be stored on the property, the number of lithium batteries - not too mention the pipeline itself - and the potential hazards of a break in the line/fire and the damage such an accident would cause (which will inevitably happen at some point). Sycamore Creek is an important water source - for recreation, but more importantly as awater source/feeder for neighboring communities - ANY alteration/contamination of the water could be a catastrophic event (both in terms of health + financial repercussions). We have a farm a short distance from the proposed site (less than a mile as the crow flies) - a farm that has been in the family for five generations - with a natural spring that I'm concerned will be contaminated from the plant - not too mention the livestock. This may now be one of the few areas in middle Tennessee where property values will now decrease over the coming years. As I understand it, the power generated from this plant will be used OUTSIDE of Cheatham County, and not for the residents of the local community. This is bad. Property within Davidson County should be used for this purpose - not farmed out to a 'feeder' community that must deal with the fallout. This is why we move from the city. And lastly, TVA needs to take a much more aggressive stance in going to Green energy and completely away from any fossil fuel usage asap - the funds are there to do so. Methane sounds like a good alternative to coal as a PR move, but is doing just as much damage to the atmosphere/global warming - with the pollutants (VOCs) from such a methane plant causing cancer, affecting the nervous system and causing birth defects. Please do not build this proposed plant on this site. negative David McClister

The TVA's unwillingness to address the extraordinary circumstances of the ever increasing Climate Crisis and the roll methane gas plays in exacerbating the crisis - putting the environment and the health of Tennessee residents at risk - is unacceptable.

Your Authority is ill-informed and your actions are arrogant and careless and it is time for you to step into the present and take the actions necessary to reduce the climate crisis impacts on Tennesseans and beyond negative Naomi Zurcher 11201

Renewable energy is already less expensive than gas plants over their lifetimes even before you factor in the costs of CDR and methane leaks. When you include those pollution costs — which we need to pay AS THEY OCCUR, not in some vague distant future— it’s a no-brained: no more stranded fossil fuel assets please! negative Peter Yungbluth 21601

STOP THIS MADNESS and find another more healthy way to line your pockets. What a selfish, uncaring, unethical way to represent the good people of Tennessee , who put you in a seat of power to do right by them. Shame on all of you. These are my brothers and sisters you are planning to hurt and when you hurt them, you hurt me and ALL Americans!

If money is the driving force behind this poorly thought out decision to start adding miles and miles of Methane gas pipelines, BEWARE….. there is such a thing as KARMA and it WILL come back to ruin your life in equal parts to all of the lives you could potentially harm if there was ever a catastrophic leakage of your pipelines in the pristine Tennessee counties at risk for this to happen to….all of these precious families who reside there. STOP THIS MADNESS AND STOP IT NOW!!!!! negative Howard Wistrich 85750

It's time to shift into the future and get out of fossil fuels before the planet reaches the tipping point! Our infrastructure needs your expertise and to be restructured. Water system and waste management, recapture of deadly chemicals. Surely much of your expertise can be applied in these areas. If you wait till it is forced upon you it will be TOO LATE FOR ALL OF US. Barbara Williamson negative Barbara Williamson 94706
