You stated this project is intended to support continued load growth in Middle Tennessee. Where exactly is that load growth coming from that is creating this demand?
Between 2010 and 2022, the state of Tennessee grew 10.9%, with its largest annual population increase being 1.4% between 2019 and 2020. The Middle Tennessee area has been a major contributor to this load growth. TVA’s reports are located on the reports page of the TVA website: www.tva.com/about-tva/reports. Further, energy efficiency gains are being made by TVA as set out in the target supply mix of the 2019 IRP. If this proposed project is determined to be viable for execution, the generation equipment (e.g. gas turbines, battery energy storage system) procured and incorporated into the plant design and construction will be the most current and advanced technology from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the intended application. Additionally, TVA is continuing to promote various energy efficiency and demand response programs to end-use customers: https://energyright.com/. TVA is continually investigating and evaluating sites for potential future use to support the bulk electric system across the seven-state region of the Tennessee Valley.
What is TVA doing to ensure the new construction creating the demand and load growth is maximizing energy efficiency?
Prior to purchasing the Cheatham County land, what other areas were considered? Why is this project not being built in an industrialized area of Davidson County? Williamson County? Rutherford County? Sumner County? The original notice stated TVA would need an additional 12 miles of new pipeline for the Cheatham County site. The scoping report reduced it to 8 miles. What was the original route? What is the new proposed route? What factored into the change? (The numbers are conflicting in the scoping report.)
The initial, conceptual route of the gas pipeline was indicated on the Scoping Open House Posters (June 2023) document located at www.tva.com/NEPA. At the time of the Public Meeting on June 21st, 2023, initial discussions with the gas pipeline company indicated a connection point for the lateral supply line approximately 12 miles from the project site. The proposed routing estimated at that time was conceptual and subject to change. The tie-in location has been revised and the estimated mileage reduced to approximately 8 miles. The gas pipeline routing remains conceptual at this time.
