Box A Ranch History
Don Anderson came home from veterinary school in 1975 with a broodmare that
came from J.B Fergusen. She was one of the first of his broodmares. He began
doing ranch work and roping on a few mares he had selected for conformations,
bone, speed and cow. At the right time they became broodmares and filles and
from those mares is where his broodmares came from.
As his ranching operation grew, he used a flat top A brand so it would not
blotch. One of his hands started calling it Box A and that is how the ranch name
began.
Many stallions were used over the years . Dick Etheredge’s “Joe Queen Last” .
John Pennell’s “Teddy Plucker” a partnership formed, and they bought “Coco
Sata n”. He raised out of a B.D Nation mare “Gray Smoke Da wdle ”, and Glenn
Rosson bought from the Howard Dahlof Sale “ Roman Aces Full” . He took his
best mare “My Aces Full” to Shinar Ranch and got “ My Ace Cowboy”. He then
went to Duane Walker in Canton, KS and b ought “Tee Jay Fancy Jackie” “CS
Cash Remind” came from Tim Pursifull from CS Cattle Co . in Cimarron New
Mexico. Others came from Sally Schwartz in Raton New Mexico., Chip Jones
from Amarillo, Tx, and Kathleen Moore from Durant, OK, which he still. Has
