Shoosty Bugs / An Art Infestation - MOAS

TURKISH BUTTERFLY

Stephen Shooster, aka Shoosty, unveils “Turkish Butterfly” (2025) at the Shoosty Bugs exhibition in Daytona’s Museum of Arts and Sciences, presenting a breath- taking pair of 36” square vector art pieces on 18mm silk twill, with distinct front and back designs. Drawing from Turkish tile work and Arabic influences, the intricate, traditionally abstract patterns are reimag- ined with a vibrant butterfly at the core, its wings a mosaic of colors that remain crisp without bleeding through the delicate silk. The hand-rolled, hand-sewn edges and twill weave add a refined touch, while the complexity of the hand-drawn vector de- sign showcases Shoosty’s technical prow- ess. This work embodies his concept of Chromatic Fusionism, which marries the scientific precision of art—through vector technology and digital tools—with a fusion of civilizations, blending cultural aesthetics

across time and geography, from Ottoman intricacies to modern innovation, all in- formed by the interconnected knowledge of the Internet. Comparable to the ornate tile art of Otto- man master Iznik, whose geometric and flo - ral designs share a similar depth, Shoosty’s piece introduces a living form into this ab- stract tradition, bridging eras. It is a place where technology and cultural synthesis create a timeless dialogue.
