ENGAGE YOUR KIDS ON THANKSGIVING WITH THESE GRATITUDE-THEMED GAMES

Thanksgiving is an excellent time to teach children about gratefulness. By planning some fun, gratitude-themed games, you can impart a valuable lesson and spend some quality family time together. Get your kids in the holiday spirit by adding a Thanksgiving twist to these classic games. PICTIONARY Want to bring out your kids’ creative sides? Pictionary is the perfect way to encourage artistic expression and grateful thinking. Try adding a rule where players have to draw something they’re grateful for. This will get your kids thinking beyond turkey and stuffing and give them an imaginative way to express their gratitude. Plus, who doesn’t love a good art contest? GUESS WHO? To play gratitude-themed Guess Who?, have each participant write down their name and something they’re thankful for on a slip of paper and put it in a bowl. Then, at the dinner table, have each person draw a random slip

and read what it says without saying the name while everyone else tries to guess who wrote it. While Pictionary may get your kids talking about what they are thankful for, Guess Who? will tune them into what others around them are thankful for too. PICK-UP STICKS Like regular pick-up sticks, the goal is to remove a stick from a haphazard pile without disturbing the others. However, by using colored sticks that represent different kinds of thankfulness — such as places, people, or food — you can make players think outside the box. This will ensure you get a wide range of creative, thoughtful answers whenever the kids pick up a stick. These modified games are great for helping your kids realize how much they have to be thankful for. Use these to spend some fun, educational, quality time with your family this Thanksgiving.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: KELLI A PRACTICED, STEADY HAND

Kelli has been in the orthodontic field for 21 years — long enough that her career could order a drink all by itself. Every day when she comes into the office, she puts 110% into her work and offers a combination of passion and experience that’s rare to find. That’s perhaps no surprise because it turns out Kelli had her heart set on orthodontics even as a teenager. “While I was in dental assistant school, I really liked the orthodontics process, and I knew that I wanted to specialize in it when I was finished. Plus, I had some experience in high school. I did sterilization for an orthodontics practice after school, so I knew I liked it from that point on,” she says. After graduation, Kelli worked as an orthodontic assistant in her hometown of Charleston before making a move upstate. Then, she worked at a practice in Spartanburg before making the switch to Marshall Orthodontics, where we’ve kept her busy for a year and a half so far. As an orthodontic assistant, Kelli does everything, including setting up workstations in preparation for patients, helping install dental gear, making

adjustments, and taking X-rays and impressions. She says the variety of duties is one of the things she loves about her job. “General dentistry is just fillings and cleanings. In orthodontics, every patient needs something different, and I get to work more on my own than in general practice,” she says.

Kelli also loves getting to know her patients and looks forward to seeing our regulars.

“What I like about orthodontics also is that we get to see our patients every four to six weeks, so I feel like we kind of build a relationship with them,” she explains. “I enjoy catching up with them when they come in for adjustments and really like being able to see their smiles from start to finish.” When she’s not at the office, you can probably find Kelli outdoors with her 17-year-old son, Carter, and 11-year- old daughter, Rylee, either boating, camping, or lounging by the lake. On her own time, she likes to go to concerts with friends and check out nearby wineries. Inside the office and out, there’s something new and surprising around every corner.
