T H E GREA T E S T

SIN OF ALL

MANKIND

by Dr. W. Herschel Ford

H a v e y o u e v e r w o n d e r e d what is the greatest sin in all the world? Some say it is murder. Yet the Apos tle Paul who was responsible for the murder of many Christians was saved. Someone may say theft is the greatest sin. However, the thief on the cross heard Jesus say to him, “ Today thou shalt be with me in Paradise.” Some will claim that adultery is the greatest sin. Yet the Lord Jesus forgave the woman who was taken in that very act. The great est sin, as Bible-believing Christians know, is rejection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you a sinner? Then be as sured that God loves you. He gave His only begotten Son to die on Cal vary’s cross just to redeem you. He offers this wonderful salvation to you free by His grace. You may reject the Saviour, even trample Him under foot. On the other hand, you may do nothing with Him, living with no thought about Him whatsoever, and in so doing you will be committing the greatest sin in the world. In John 3:36 we read, “ He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abid- eth on him.” What happens when a man rejects Christ? First of all, he shuts the door to his own highest possibilities and potentialities. A great question was posed in the long ago which we can not escape, “What shall I do with Jesus, who is called the Christ?”

blotted out. In the distance yonder is Christ the Light of the world. Some one is looking at you. If you are not a Christian, you become a shadow moving between him and the Lord. Remember,, no man goes to heaven or hell alone. You will have an influ ence on someone who will follow your example. Are you lifting him up or pulling him down? It has been my great sorrow to know many parents who stood in the way of their children’s spiritual wel fare. Some of them were not Chris tians, while others were backslid den. Their children drifted into the world and then the fathers and mothers wondered why. At the time of any baby’s birth parents should re-dedicate themselves anew to God. It is not just the child who needs to be dedicated! So, if you are not living as you should for Jesus Christ, think of the others upon whom you are casting a shadow. Why do you stand in their way? Rejecting Jesus Christ means that a man is putting himself on the devil’s side. He may not like to hear this, but it is true. There is no mid dle ground. A person is either on God’s side or on Satan’s side. Think of the many issues of life and ask yourself, “ If Jesus were here, what stand would He take?” Then fear lessly take your place. Rejecting Christ, a man insults God who loves every creature in the world. He knew you would be lost and bound for hell, so, in His great

How have you personally answered that query? No man is at his best until he has linked his own possibili ties to the power of Christ. A philosopher once said, “Give your life to a great cause, and give your best to that cause.” So in Chris tianity, find the man who is doing the most good for God and the world, and you will find a man who has linked his life to the power of the Holy Spirit. Vast multitudes of peo ple make no contribution to the world simply because they have never received the Lord Jesus Christ. If this is true with you, then cut loose from your sins and surrender all to Him. However, if you reject Him, holding on to your sin, you will be

hampered from rising to your best. Next, in rejecting Christ, a man puts himself in the way of others. Sometime ago, I went out in our yard on a moonlight night. An eclipse of the moon had been predicted by the astronomers. Looking up, I saw the shadow of the sun moving across the moon. The shadow became larger and Jarger until the moon was entirely
