CURRICULUM OVERVIEW Year 10

At The Lakes South Morang College, the Senior School program begins in Year 10. This year forms the foundation of a three-year pathway through Senior School, aligned with VCE subject blocking, and offers students the opportunity to study a mix of Year 10 and Year 11 subjects (subject to approval). Students study six subjects across the year. English, Mathematics and Science are compulsory for all Year 10 students. The remaining subjects are selected based on student interest and capacity, and may include a combination of semester-based and year-long electives. The structure of the Year 10 timetable reflects that of the VCE, helping students become familiar with senior school expectations. In Year 10 and Year 11, students fill all six subject blocks, while in Year 12, students are required to undertake a minimum of five subject blocks. Students in Year 10 may also be eligible to enrol in VET or VCE subjects, based on academic performance and a recommendation from the relevant subject teacher. This process is part of the Student Course Counselling program. While most Year 10 students enrol in a maximum of one VET or VCE subject, exceptions may be made where additional study supports the student’s academic growth. All Year 10 subjects are assessed against the Victorian Curriculum using a rubric-based assessment model, and include formal examinations or assessments. A minimum attendance rate of 90% is required to satisfactorily complete a subject, in line with VCE expectations. Comprehensive course counselling is provided by trained staff to support students in making informed decisions about their learning pathways and future goals.
