YEAR 10 MATHEMATICS Year 10 Mathematics prepares students for the demands of VCE Mathematics. Topics include financial mathematics, with a focus on simple and compound interest, and algebraic techniques for solving equations, manipulating expressions, and graphing functions. Students explore linear, quadratic, and simultaneous equations, applying their knowledge to real-world contexts. Measurement and Space topics include composite solids, similarity, trigonometry, and geometric proofs. Statistics involves data analysis, scatterplots, and evaluating statistical claims in the media. Probability studies extend to multi-step chance experiments, covering independent and dependent events. Students engage with digital technologies to support their learning, ensuring they develop the problem-solving and analytical skills necessary for further studies and future careers. YEAR 10 SCIENCE Year 10 Science prepares students for VCE pathways through in-depth study in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth sciences. In Physics, students explore motion, forces, and thermodynamics, applying their understanding to predict and model interactions. The origins of the universe and theories such as the Big Bang are investigated. Chemistry studies focus on atomic bonding, molecular structures, and reaction types, including combustion, decomposition, and acid-metal reactions. In Biology, students explore DNA, genetic inheritance, cell division, and evolutionary theory. Earth science topics include the interactions between the atmosphere, lithosphere, biosphere, and hydrosphere, as well as the impact of climate change.
