YEAR 10 ELECTIVES As students enter their senior years of schooling, they take on greater responsibility for their learning by selecting subjects that align with their future pathways. The Year 10 elective program provides students with the opportunity to explore areas of interest, develop specialised skills, and prepare for VCE and future career opportunities. This curriculum promotes independence, self- directed learning, and decision-making, ensuring students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their chosen fields.
PSYCHOLOGY Psychology is the study of human thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Students explore various fields of psychology, including health, sports, forensic, and clinical psychology. Topics include sleep and dreams, learning and memory, social psychology, and positive psychology. Through research methods, students conduct ethically considered investigations and report their findings, developing scientific inquiry skills. Pathway: Leads to VCE Psychology. BUSINESS STUDIES Students explore the nature of innovation and competitive advantage in business, evaluating Australia’s role in an evolving global market. They analyse workplace changes, economic and business trends, and their broader impact on individuals, businesses, and the economy. Students develop an understanding of decision-making in economic and business contexts and the consequences of these choices. Pathway: Leads to VCE Business Management and VCE Economics. LEGAL STUDIES Legal Studies provides insight into the laws that protect individuals and groups in society. Students examine the creation of laws by parliament and the courts, distinguishing between criminal and civil law. They explore legal processes, justice systems, and current legal issues, understanding their role in shaping laws. Students also learn about voting rights and the electoral process in Australia. Pathway: Leads to VCE Legal Studies. 20TH CENTURY HISTORY Students investigate wartime experiences through the study of World War II, including its causes, key events, and outcomes. They examine the conflict in Europe and the Pacific, as well as its impact on Australians at home and abroad. Through the analysis of primary and secondary sources, students evaluate different perspectives and form their own interpretations of historical events. Pathway: Leads to VCE History.
EXTENDED INVESTIGATION This elective allows students to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice, refining critical thinking, research, and communication skills. They develop a rigorous research question and explore complex ideas, preparing them for higher education and vocational pathways. Students considering Units 3 & 4 Extended Investigation in Year 11 or 12 are highly encouraged to take this elective. Pathway: Leads to VCE Extended Investigation.
