PRODUCT DESIGN Materials Students apply design thinking to create functional products using wood, metal, and plastics. They conduct risk assessments, plan production processes, and use CAD (computer-aided design) tools. Sustainability considerations are incorporated into their evaluations, and students develop folios documenting their creative journey. Pathway: Leads to VCE Product Design and Technology. FOOD STUDIES Students refine their cooking skills, developing an understanding of ingredient functions and food preservation techniques. Ethical food production, sustainability, and food safety are key areas of study. Students follow and create design briefs, preparing for VCE Food Studies. Pathway: Leads to VCE Food Studies. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Students engage in sports and activities to enhance movement skills, biomechanical analysis, and skill acquisition. They explore fitness components, training methods, and performance analysis to understand athlete development. Pathway: Leads to VCE Physical Education and VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies. HEALTH & HUMAN DEVELOPMENT This elective explores the physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of health. Students analyse biological, sociocultural, and environmental factors affecting health and wellbeing across the lifespan, preparing for further studies in health-related fields. Pathway: Leads to VCE Health and Human Development.
VISUAL ART Students create a range of artworks using various techniques and mediums in a studio environment, developing their personal artistic style. They analyse major 20th-century art movements and use these influences in their work. Assessment includes a folio documenting their creative process and a written analysis of selected artworks. Pathway: Leads to VCE Studio Arts and VCE Visual Communication Design. DANCE/DRAMA Students develop and perform both devised and scripted drama, exploring different forms, styles, and performance spaces. They engage in directing, producing, and acting, applying stagecraft elements such as costume, makeup, and lighting. Participation in the school production—either as a cast member or crew—is an essential part of this elective. Pathway: Leads to VCE Drama, VCE Dance and VCE Theatre Studies. MEDIA In Media, students will explore how media artworks are created and interpreted across different cultures and times. They will learn to use media technologies to construct representations that communicate ideas and perspectives. By analysing and evaluating media works, students will develop an understanding of how media can influence and reflect society. This unit encourages students to experiment with media production processes and share their work with audiences, fostering critical thinking and creativity. Pathway: Leads to VCE Media. APPLIED COMPUTING Students build on programming skills, working on digital solutions from investigation to design and development. They explore cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital communication tools. Object-oriented programming, gaming, and social media applications are examined in depth. Pathway: Leads to VCE Applied Computing and VCE Data Analytics.
