Daisy Barrow and her parents

An amazing opportunity Daisy Barrow, the current recipient of the Trevor Pescud Tennis Award, told us about her Eastbourne experience. ‘I have been at the College since 2022. I was spotted by the head of tennis at Eastbourne College and was invited to apply for the Trevor Pescud Award. ‘When I started at the College the tennis team and the headmaster were all so welcoming, helping me to fit in. I love it here and my tennis has really improved. I am now in the lower sixth form and am looking to go to a division 1 American university. The College has set me on the right path for that. If I could have met Mr Pescud, I would have thanked him so much for his gift. I would do the same if I could. Daisy’s mother, Hannah said: ‘When Daisy was offered a place at the College I cried a lot. We felt so lucky.’ Her father, Shane, added: ‘You want your child to go there (Eastbourne College), because of its reputation but we couldn’t afford it. So, this was an amazing opportunity. The training and support Daisy gets for her tennis is so good but the foundation to everything else is also there. They think of everything they can to get the best out of the pupils. ‘Before Daisy went to the College, I would have said: “Why would you leave money to a school?” You don’t understand until your own child goes through it, it’s unbelievable. We would give if we could afford to – to give someone else that opportunity is massive.’

Trevor Pescud (Powell 1945-50) was head of house and had a love of tennis, which he enjoyed playing all his life. He died in 2015 and generously left a legacy to fund talented girl tennis players.

‘My bursary at Eastbourne College meant everything to me, and without it, put simply, I would not have been able to attend the school.’ Ed Speleers (Wargrave 2001-06)
