Ignoring New Instruction
Suggested Strategy: Use Whiteboard Coaching to help the individual
analyze their current strategy compared to the expectations set for them
in adjusting to new instruction.
Suggested Questions:
→ Teach Me: Just so that I don’t make any assumptions because that
would be unfair to you, can you please walk me through your
understanding of what to do when you receive new instruction?
→ Risk Question: What risks do you think you might mitigate by following
those expectations and addressing new instruction immediately?
Suggested Activities:
→ Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, ask the
individual to explain their current actions taken when they receive new
instruction. On the right side of the board, write down how the individual
might describe what the ideal steps to be taken would look like. Then,
erase the left side of the board and write down the actions that the
individual must take to reach the description on the right side of the
board.
