Suggested Activities:
→ Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down
how this person would currently describe their ability to communicate in
a timely manner as it relates to the definition described earlier. On the
right side of the board, write down the ideal definition as discussed
earlier. Erase the left side of the board and write down the actions that
the individual is committed to take in order to reach the
description/definition on the right side of the board.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Assign the individual that you are coaching to
meet with two different peers at separate times throughout the week.
Their meeting should include a conversation revolving around their
peers’ strategies for maintaining timely communication throughout the
week. At your next coaching session, ask the individual to describe two
things that they learned from each peer, and one takeaway from each
meeting that they will put into practice in their own communication at
work.
→ Observational Coaching: Ask the employee to track the responses
that they receive from peers and third parties – in what sort of timeframe do they generally receive responses? Are their observations in alignment with the definition that you had assigned to timely communication at the beginning of your coaching session? Ask the employee to email you with their observations by the end of the work week.
