Intimidated by Supervisors
Suggested Strategy: Use a Story-Based Coaching strategy to help make
their struggles relatable to others. Pair this with a Whiteboard Coaching
strategy to help them have a plan for interacting with their supervisors
going forward.
Suggested Questions:
→ Rating Question: On a scale of one to six, with six representing that
you are entirely comfortable speaking with any supervisor at any time
and one representing that you are terrified of your supervisors and
refuse to speak with them, where would you rate yourself and why?
→ Risk Question: What risks do you think you might mitigate by
becoming comfortable in speaking with supervisors?
Suggested Activities:
→ Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down
how the individual would currently describe their strategy for
approaching their supervisors and what their interactions look like. On
the right side of the board, write down how they would define what it
looks like to be entirely comfortable approaching supervisors and how
those interactions would ideally look. Then, erase the left side of the
board and ask the individual to brainstorm with you a list of actions
thatyou can take together to help them become less intimidated by
their supervisors.
