Suggested Strategy: Use a Define & Coach strategy so the individual you
are coaching truly understands what it looks like to stand up for
themselves.
Suggested Questions:
→ Define & Coach: When talking about standing up for yourself, what do
you think that specifically looks like within the workplace? What
definition would you assign to that idea?
→ Risk Question: What risks do you think you might face if you do not
stand up for yourself, based on that definition?
→ Success Imperative: What actions do you think we could take together
to help you become more confident in standing up for yourself and
utilizing that definition in your daily interactions?
Suggested Activities:
→ Role Play: Practice! Have the individual play both sides of the
interaction in practice situations that they may actually struggle with in
the office. What did they feel they did well and where can they
improve?
→ GOAL-Based Coaching: What does the individual aspire to become
Great at in their career? What Opportunities might be afforded to the
individual by becoming great? What Actions must they take related
to standing up for themselves to bring those opportunities within
reach? What will the individual Love about reaching their goals?
