what they would like to be Great at in their position, what Opportunities
being great will present for them, what Actions must be taken to be
great, and what they will Love about reaching those opportunities.
Could their emotions be holding them back?
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Have the employee keep track of one
conversation where they exhibited control over their emotions and one
conversation where they let their emotions get the best of them each
week. How could they have handled that conversation differently?
This can be a conversation with a peer or a client.
→ Tangible Successes: Have your coaching target email you at the end
of each week two ways they positively handled emotional moments in a
conversation.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ 30-Second Coaching: Reinforce a positive attitude with positive
recognition. Take 30 seconds to acknowledge specific actions taken by
your coaching target to improve on their relationships.
→ Observational Coaching: Have the employee observe their peers as
they interact with others during the week. How do their peers handle
stressful moments or negativity? Do they have positive relationships
with other peers and clients? What takeaways from their observations
can your coaching target implement in their own relationships?
