Suggested Learning Projects:

→ Tangible Successes: Ask the person to come back to your next

coaching session with three examples of efforts made in improving an

area that you would like them to improve. Be prepared to discuss with

them at that time how their efforts to make improvements will have an

effect on the impression that they will leave on their peers in their last

few years before retirement. This strategy is a great way to help the

person you are coaching invest in their improvement without giving

them an assignment that they could “forget” because it doesn’t require

extra effort or time.

Supplemental Coaching Strategies:

→ Non-Verbal Coaching: Leave this person a hand-written note

reinforcing positive improvement in something that you have been

coaching them to. Be specific in the actions they took and in letting

them know how their efforts will show in the legacy they leave with

their team and with the company as a senior employee
