Suggested Learning Projects:

→ Journal-Based Coaching: Ask the employee to keep a journal in the

coming weeks – the entries should note daily times where they either

were given feedback or there was an opportunity for them to seek

feedback. What action did they take in that situation? What was the

outcome of their action? How did they feel about their goals that you

discussed previously after that feedback? Be prepared to discuss their

journal entries at your next coaching session. Journaling will also give

them an opportunity to release some anxiety by writing their thoughts

down.

Supplemental Coaching Strategies:

→ 30-Second Coaching: Reinforce the employee’s confidence by taking

30 seconds to verbally acknowledge the efforts made by the employee

to accept feedback without anxiety. Be specific in letting them know

what they did well and how it will benefit them on the path toward

reaching their goal.

→ Observational Coaching: What situations does this person observe

around them where feedback is necessary? How was the feedback

given AND accepted? What takeaways can this person put into practice

from observing their peers in interactions revolving around feedback?
