Asking Peers for Input
Suggested Strategy: Utilize Role Play as a strategy to build the
individual’s confidence in asking for input. This is a very difficult thing for
many employees to master, especially after an extended time in their
position, as they create habits and processes over time that are hard to
let another person have input on.
Suggested Questions:
→ Rating Question: On a scale of one to six, with six representing that
you seek input from your peers on a consistent basis, and one being
that you never ask for input, where would you rate yourself and why?
→ Risk Question: What risks do you think you might assume when you
do not seek input from your peers?
→ Self-Actualized Question: What actions are you willing to take to build
on your ability to ask for input from your peers, and what benefits do you
think you may gain by asking them for input?
Suggested Activities:
→ Role Play: Facilitate practice conversations between your coaching
target and yourself acting as their peers in asking for input. After each
practice conversation, ask the individual to give themselves feedback on
what they think they did well in that conversation, what they could
improve for next time, and what actions they will take to make those
improvements.
