Suggested Activities:
→ Define & Coach: Come up with a shared set of criteria that needs to be
used in listening and receiving constructive criticism. Give them a set of
responses they can use to assist them in clarifying feedback. Areas to
keep in mind:
o Seek specific examples to help understand the issue
o Acknowledge the feedback that is not in dispute
o Try to understand whether it is an isolated issue/instance
o Look for concrete solutions to address the feedback
→ Role Play: Practice giving your coaching target a set of constructive
criticisms. Afterward, have them rate themselves on the areas that you
defined in the previous activity.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Tangible Successes: Have your coaching target come back to your
next coaching session with three examples of times throughout the week
where they were able to execute in all areas of your shared definition of
receiving constructive criticism or feedback. What were the questions
they did ask, and what were some additional questions they could have
asked?
