Suggested Activities:
→ Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, ask the
individual to describe how they currently react to situations where they
feel as though they have “failed” or things did not go as planned. What
is their focus on when those scenarios occur? On the right side of the
board, ask them to describe what opportunities might come from those
situations and what it might ideally look like for this person to analyze
situations that might not go as planned or intended. Then, erase the left
side of the board and work with the individual to create a specific list of
actions that the individual will take in situations like these going forward
to seek opportunities rather than focusing on the perceived “negative”
outcome.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Assign your coaching target to meet with a
new peer each week to learn how they handle situations where things
did not go as intended. What strategies do they have in place for
seeking opportunity from those situations rather than focusing on the
negatives that they believe came about related to the scenario. What
takeaways from their conversations with their peers can the individual
put into practice as they analyze the outcomes of their own
experiences?
