→ Brainstorming: Come up with an action plan to reach those goals that were discussed in the activity above. This emphasizes your role in their
success, and investment in the tangible process of getting there.
→ Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of the board, list their current
behaviors and goals. Then, on the right, list out the goals and behaviors
they want to have in their career. Erase the left side and outline
specifically what behaviors, actions, and knowledge are necessary to
reaching those goals. Use this time to outline specifically what
behaviors and skills are necessary to be better at communication to
help them reach those goals.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Have your employee journal their progress
to reach their goals. Frame this in a weekly format by requiring them to
summarize their thoughts into: two successes, two challenges, and one
observation.
→ Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Pair this employee up with someone they look
up to or aspire to be like in terms of career alignment. Have them meet
once a month to discuss their career goals and challenges they’ve
come across. Have them use their journal as a point of reference for
discussion.
