Developing People Skills with Millennials
Suggested Strategy: Face-to-face communication is something that
many people need to work on, so these approaches can be used with
anyone who struggles with people skills. Use role plays and goal setting
to help millennials see the connection between people skills and career
success.
Suggested Questions:
→ Permission-Based Question: Note how you feel about their current
state of people skills. Example: “Can I shar e my observations with your
permission? I’ve noticed that you are really great at email
communication, but your in-person communication is lacking. Do you
agree with that observation?”
→ Third-Party Question: If I were to ask a friend of yours how your
people skills are here at work, what would they say and why?
→ Risk Question: What risk do you assume by not developing your
people skills here? What challenges does this present as it relates to
your overall career goals?
→ Self-Actualized Question: What activities or set of feedback works
best for you in terms of developing your people skills?
