Motivating Through Stagnation
Suggested Strategy: One thing to keep in mind is that there is no right or
wrong way to coach OTHER THAN not coaching! You’ll know when 30 -
second coaching is best, and you’ll know when a more detailed role -play
scenario makes more sense. When in doubt, always feel free to reach
out. With motivation, it’s important to recognize even the small things,
especially when someone feels like they’re stuck.
Suggested Questions:
→ Self-Actualized Question: What has kept you motivated in the past
when things get difficult? This can be in your personal or professional
life.
→ Risk Question: What things hinder your motivation? What risks do you
assume if you don’t understand the drawbacks to not being motivated?
→ Success Imperative: What can we do together to make you successful
and achieve your goals at work?
Suggested Activities:
→ Whiteboard Coaching: Write on the left side of the board how they
think their peers would currently describe their ability to self-motivate
during difficult times. Then on the right side of the board, write down
what they think ideal motivation looks like. Erase the left side of the
board and write down the steps that they think is necessary to become
more motivated as described on the right side of the board.
