Suggested Activities:

→ Whiteboard Coaching: Use Whiteboard Coaching to continue the

momentum that brought that employee there in the first place. On the

left side of the board, ask the employee to describe what internal and

external drivers have motivated them up until this point. On the right

side of the board, ask the employee what other things they’re looking for

in relation to motivation, either internally or externally. Then, erase the

left side of the board and ask the employee to think of the actions and

behaviors that are necessary to get to the right side of the board. Simply

because an employee has gotten to their previous goals, or has shown

positive progress, doesn’t mean thei r journey at the company is

complete. Often, providing the space to explore options and goals will

reveal more and keep your coaching target engaged and aware that

you’re invested in the process.

Suggested Learning Projects:

→ Journal Based Coaching: One of the ways you can have your

employee track their successes and journey is through journal-based

coaching. Have the employee, at the end of every week, journal how

many of the items from the whiteboard coaching activity they worked

on during the week, items that fell by the wayside, and what they

learned during the week. Showing the employee that you’re truly

invested in their progress will more than likely keep them invested in

themselves.
