Focused Productivity
Suggested Strategy: Direct the focus of your coaching conversation to
the employee’s surroundings and the effects of his/her behavior rather
than the behavior itself.
Suggested Questions:
→ Risk Question: What risks do you think you might assume
when your attention is not on your work or when you pull
other employees’ attention away from their own tasks?
→ Third-Party Question: How do you think your peers would
honestly describe your ability to remain focused and
productive throughout the workday?
Suggested Activities:
→ Brainstorming: Make a list together of actions to take when
the employee feels distracted or senses the urge to talk to
peers instead offocus on the task at hand. Discuss strategies for
remaining focused during the workday and specific situations where
they can implement those strategies.
→ Teach Me: Have the employee walk you through a typical situation
where they might be required to remain focused and productive in the
workday. What level of efficiency does the employee think they exhibit
and where might there be room for improvement?
